To convert the video, I first exported each frame to a PNG file using Virtualdub, Used Irfanview Thumbnails to resize all images to 298x224 and combine them into one big image, then I used Ulead Photoimpact to resize and dither all images to a common 4-color palette, then adjusted the colors of that palette. I remember making a brief "video" sequence for a demo I wrote years ago by drawing all the frames in one huge BMP in MS Paint... I figured out how to automatically store only the tiles which changed in each frame, and just swap nametable pointers on the changed tiles, which saved me some space. Dammit, now I feel like making another NES demo.
