They're black sesame seeds.
Gomashio - sesame seed
I still remember this from japanese class 7/8 years ago.
Japanese language uses various words for counting different objects. When counting something
small like a seed, the word attached is, "tsubu." Alone, the word kinda means, "tiny little
thing." It's kinda like how you say, "a dozen eggs." You don't say, "a twelve eggs." Or you call
a group of geese a, "gaggle." or a group of crows a "murder."
Same thing with japanese. ippon - One long thing. You count umbrellas, pencils, pens, oblong
things like that. Ippon pinnissu. Soku for things that come in pairs, but you still count the
number of them that there are. 3 sock is still san soku. I could go through and name each item
but this isn't japanese class...
Are you WITH me?

Fun fact:
This song was on the japanese top 5 for years.
It aired on a popular children's song. To those that have seen the "DSFARGEG" image -
That is the children's show that it aired on. I forget the name of the show.

Song doesn't sound half bad for a kids song
The video is pure nightmare fuel, tho. Especially when they're all smiling that creepy smile and
acting like they're about to jump out toward the terrified viewer
