Why can't I do anything? It allows me to press enter at the beginning of the flash but it won't

Sooooo the last star upgrade you get from the Tophatter is shit. It makes the next part near
impossible because it leaves your front wide open and the monsters just walk right between your
shots and hit you. Since you cant move and fire at the same time you can do nothing except run
around in circles until you get lucky and the monsters run into your attack. Game was fine up
until this part.
