This. Cutting it out my life, starting with my massive porn stash. Rather improve my getting laid

Eh, convinced me to try. I wonder if I actually will get stuff done if I cut cold turkey. Of

Don't have to quit fapping, just quit porn. I used to fap using my imagination all the time...
then I found porn. You'll probably naturally fap less anyway, and instead seek out pussy (or

How do I know if I'm even addicted?
I jack off to fetish crap, but have no trouble getting a stiffy without it, and if anything it's
made it easier at times, and I do it without porn just as often as I do it with.
If anything, the testimonies sound like they're from manvirgins and douchebags who blame nudie

It's not about not fapping, if you're paying any kind of attention. It's about not fapping to
porn. Cause it overstimulates the brain into thinking you've hit the "evolutionary jackpot." Like
you've got girls (or guys) everywhere. Fapping less doesn't hurt, though, and I used to only fap
when I started popping random boners or got a wet dream or some shit... before I started on
internet porn. It's not wrong to fap, man has been doing it since they discovered their dicks.

It's pseudoscience, not because it's psych and neuro, but because it revolves around an overly
reductionist model and he didn't use any population statistics. He makes pretty bold claims, and
supports them with a couple anecdotes.
People crave sex like they crave food. Then, people tend to crave porn like they crave
McDonald's. Most people can lead healthy lives with moderate use of porn and/or McDonald's.
Abstaining from porn, or McDonald's, really only has much of a benefit to those that are addicted
to it. From the way this guy is talking, you'd think every American male over the age of 12 has a
porn addiction, which is kind of stupid.
Yes, even though he had charts.

I work in a reproduction biology lab and it's always impossible to get any sort of population
statistics regarding sex (masturbation included) because everyone always lies. People sign up for
studies because of the monetary incentive, then lie on the questionnaires due to being ashamed,
as well as a fear that *something that they do so regularly is unhealthy or causing harm*.
>> [_] Anonymous 08/08/12(Wed)13:06 No.1739197
>>1739188
re-read my post. Didn't mean to imply that sex/masturbation is bad for you. People are just
fearful of possibly finding out that it might be.
>> [_] Anonymous 08/08/12(Wed)13:50 No.1739215
So, all I took away from this is that internet porn is bad. Not masturbating itself - a lot of
people seem to be making that inference here. I have known for some time what he mentioned about
the pleasure center of the brain used as a rewards mechanism. Essentially, what is happening, is
that by fapping to internet porn, you are programming yourself to fap to internet porn.
Alternatively, if you fap after something constructive, like reading, writing, or exercising, you
are rewarding that behavior, motivating you to do it again. Just as it can be a bane, it can be a
blessing. It's a double-edged sword.
People who are quitting cold turkey are making a stupid mistake. What do you think happens when
you stop a constant flow of rewarding dopamine? All that abstinant behavior after that is given a
low priority. You are just setting yourself up for relapse.
>> [_] Anonymous 08/08/12(Wed)13:56 No.1739219
>>1739167
Not the guy you were talking with, but I think the main point is that anything in excess is bad
for you, and porn just happens to hit a lot of the right triggers in our brains. It's certainly a
little wishy-washy, but it's not entirely incorrect.
>> [_] Anonymous 08/08/12(Wed)14:05 No.1739222
I think a lot of people are missing the point. The parallel he made between obese people and porn
addicts is about the best one you can make, because in both cases, you are satisfying the search
for two of the primary goals of life: food and reproduction. Now that we, as a society, have
nearly infinite food and orgasms, our animal hindbrains are freaking out and going, "holy shit! I
should get all of this before it disappears!" Wanting food and sex *a lot* are traits that have
been evolutionarily selected for, and now that we're in a position where we have an unlimited
supply of either without having to actually do anything, we're frying our brains. We're becoming
numb to it. Our animal hindbrains are going, "why bother trying to reproduce when I could get the
satisfaction of fucking on the internet?"
>> [_] Anonymous 08/08/12(Wed)14:06 No.1739223
Well what about watching porn but not fapping. Shouldn't that in theory make you more sexually
aroused, because you'll become frustrated with not being able to please yourself and would have
to go find someone else to do it. I.E. increasing your horniness and wanting to enjoy the feeling
more.
>> [_] Anonymous 08/08/12(Wed)14:09 No.1739224
>>1739223
No, then you'll probably just end up staring at the person because you've wired yourself to
abstain from sexual activity whenever you're aroused.

>>1739223
Same guy here.
Try it. Watch something that will get you wanting to nut but don't even touch yourself. It should
make you frustrated and make you want to find something to get that relief.

7 Billion people, and this is a problem ..why? We've not only overshot the threshold for
survivability as a species, we have reached a point where science can do this for us. Better,
faster, stronger. I think the real issue here is relationships.
>> [_] Anonymous 08/08/12(Wed)14:18 No.1739230
>>1739224
I don't believe so. Just because you abstain from something doesn't mean you'll no longer be able
to do it. Honestly, I think it's the opposite. The more you do something on a constant basis the
less satisfying it becomes. However, I am going based off myself and I have issues with losing
interest in things quickly. Only reason I can look at porn so much is that I only focus on one if
my fetishes at a time so I never wear out. I have applied this to other things in my life. If I
only had one fetish I would've given up porn a long time ago.
