i get the principle they're trying to illustrate, but the analogy is oversimplified.
some people are irrational. you're not going to change everyone's mind, but you can try and
change as many as possible and otherwise try to create a society where everyone has equal
opportunities.
that might mean boycotting a business, even if it doesn't result in a business owner not being
racist anymore.
you'll have a hard time defending the stance that if blacks hadn't boycotted businesses that
discriminated, somehow they'd be better off if there was no economic incentive to reform jim crow
laws.
