Okay, I am incredibly bemused now. Is it only moe girls that say 'chokko' instead of
  'chokkourate'?

Not really. "Choko" is used by both children and adults. Whether you use "choko" or "chokore-to"
would usually depend on how... "casual" you want to sound, for lack of a better term.
For a simple example, if you're talking to a friend about chocolate you could use "choko", but if
you're at a supermarket and want to ask which isle they are in, you should use "chokore-to".
Though, from my understanding, "choko" has a bit of a childish connotation attached to it.
