built it for school project by the way, scripted in Actionscript 2.0, the bulk of the code is

This is a lot like Solar 2. Very similar concept.

Nothing complex, but it's fun.

>School project
For college?
I should try and make something that isn't a system program for a change.
Bah, you win before anything really interesting happens to your star. Nice though.

Also, IT in British colleges (We don't have CompSci until University) is a complete joke so
naturally, I'm pretty jelly you get to learn something like this in the first place.

>Don't have CS until university
Not OP, but I got into programming and the like from Highschool.
Started with HTML and JS, then Java.

Then I went into CS and got my AS in CS. At the college I transferred to (for my four year
degree), IT stands for "I Tried" since a majority of CS and SE students that can't make it
(Calcus), drop out into IT.

I lose whenever I get big enough.

If I let a huge object form near me, nothing happens but it bulking up.

What do I do?

If you run into objects smaller than you, you can absorb them and it will make you larger until
you eventually get big enough and win. If you run into an object that is larger than you, it will
absorb part of you making you progressively and rapidly smaller until you lose.

explain the fucking rules

explain why sometimes I shrink for no reason and then die

>> [_] ASDFSDFSD 07/12/13(Fri)02:33 No.2036022

>>2035977
It was for my final project in a course titled "Interactive Media" which was a requirement for
the Associate's Degree in Digital Media which i just finished at Community College. The course
didn't specifically teach us how to do all the scripting that i did for the project, but I did a
lot of work on it at home and learned enough on the internet to build the game. The class mostly
focussed on using the Adobe Flash program itself, without as much focus on ActionScript coding.

ActionScript 2.0 isn't too hard to learn, pretty similar to Javascript. Actionscript 3 (which i
don't know much of) is more similar to Java.

Ironically, after i had been showing some friends the finished project they also pointed out that
it was just like Solar 2. I had never heard of the Solar series, and thought it was kind of funny
that i had happened to make something so similar without realising it. The game "Osmosis" is also
extremely similar.

I'm someone else.

>>2036024
"Osmos". One similarity I notice is that you shrink when you move fast. Or I assume that's why
little debris form at high speeds.
Debris also form when you're devouring something. Is that intentional?

>> [_] ASDFSDFSD 07/12/13(Fri)02:47 No.2036035

>>2036034
yes, i felt it was too easy if i let players move super fast around the screen with no penalty,
so i made it so that when you exceed a particular speed little particles fall off of you and you
lose mass.

The particles that fly around when a ball is absorbed is a quirky bug that i never fixed.

These, however, weren't things i put in because of Osmos, they were things i just thought would
be a good idea, i didn't discover Osmos and Solar until after the game was complete.
