if you press sprint and z at the same time he jumps as if he had been running, idk if this was on
purpose or not

Care to elaborate a little?
If the horizontal motion is higher than 5, i.e. 5 pixels of movement per frame at 30 fps, then it
will show the running animation, and considering the order of logic within the code it is
impossible for this to occour unless I am overlooking something. When I hold Shift and press Z,
the normal jump animation plays, but when I hold Shift, and press Right/Left and Z, he either
jumps normally without moving, or gains momentum quickly and jumps sideways, playing the running
jump animation.

he means pressing shift followed by Z even while still makes him jump just as high and with the
same animation

Oh I see. I plan on implementing a "power meter" of sorts. The shift key isn't actually a
"sprint" button, it's the key that causes anything that has a more powerful alternative, like
running and jumping, to be done at the cost of power.

It does seem to flash a frame of animation as if he'd been sprinting though.

Are you saying that the frame that appears looks like he was sprinting, or that it looks the same
as the one in which he actually is sprinting?

If you run and jump repeatedly, the character slows to a stop, eventually just jumping in place.
In case you're not sure what I mean, if you hold right or left and hold Z (or shift+Z), the
character's movement slows and eventually stops.
