He's referring to the fact that the launchpad has x and y axis instead of a linear piano roll.
Imho they both require about the same amount of skill.

Then you've obviously never played piano, piano's more about chords whereas this is just
sequence, it takes the equivalent skill for this as it does to play rockband on keyboard.

That thing has about 64 buttons, whereas pianos are known to have 88 or more notes.
A piano would take far more skill than this.

>>2264075
you're kidding, right? You can program these things to have multiple sets of sounds for each one
of those buttons, which you can switch between mid performance.
64 buttons x 10 different sound sets (for example) = 640 "buttons"
Also, considering that each button can be individually programmed, the performer has to
re-memorize what sound each one makes all the time.
does this still sound easy to you?

seems to me a big difference between this and a piano is that a pianist might not be able to play
on a piano if all the keys were randomized, but artists like this guy could probably walk up to
someone else's loops and beats and make some good music in just a short familiarization.
>> [_] Anonymous 01/20/14(Mon)18:39 No.2264107
>>2264050
So apparently this guy is only pressing a single button at a time. That is what you're saying.
>> [_] Anonymous 01/20/14(Mon)18:48 No.2264114
>>2264096
You have to keep in mind that these "artists" are almost always using soundfiles which already
sound kind of good by themselves, so it isn't that hard to do it. It's definitely hard, and I
must admit that the creators of songs like this are certainly skilled, but you also have to
realize that pianos have been around for centuries and are obviously not as technologically
advanced as a soundboard. Also, pianists put more work into their songs.
Checkmate, atheists.

Drums have been around much longer than pianos and drums, although more primitive and easier to
play, evoke much more energy than most piano concerts. Technological advancement doesn't really
have much to do with core artistry. Sure your instrument may be more difficult to play, but that
doesn't mean the more harder something is to learn, the greater it's received.

I won't deny that the guy has skills, but I don't like his style.
>> [_] Anonymous 01/20/14(Mon)19:00 No.2264132
It's too bad this guy didn't spend that time learning an instrument.
I guess he can perform a kind of crummy song really well on a certain controller? Ok?
>> [_] Anonymous 01/20/14(Mon)19:06 No.2264139
Pianistfag here, this still takes skill and music production values. Anyone saying this is
talentless is a fool and should be treated as one. But lets be honest, this isn't moonlight
sonata 3rd movement.
>> [_] Anonymous 01/20/14(Mon)19:13 No.2264144
>>2264139
I'd say the majority of piano players don't have as much skill as this guy. now I'm not
specifically referring to professional pianists, but all people who "know how to play the piano".
guys got dexterity. could probably learn an instrument with relative ease
>> [_] Anonymous 01/20/14(Mon)19:16 No.2264145
>>2264144
By all means I would agree with you, though I feel there's a distinction to make between a
pianist and 'someone that knows how to play the piano'. I'm pretty sure m4sonic probably already
plays multiple instruments. Still, I want a couple of launchpads just to mess around with live
production stuff like this.

I wasn't referring entirely to the amount of skill and practice required to learn to play a
piano, but how pianists and the classical music industry has produced much more moving and world
class music than the techno (or dubstep) industry. I also just realized that the classical music
genre and techno genre are very different as well and kind of hard to compare.
