Milling the slide reduces its weight, increasing its cyclic rate. This has to be done carefully
and tested with different recoil springs and ammo loads because it can cause malfunctions.
Compensators or muzzle breaks redirect gases leaving the barrel to reduce recoil and muzzle flip.
In pistols, the gases are usually directed upward.
Both are generally used in race guns or exclusively for aesthetics.
