Farm the Arena boss (Cyclops) since he's easy as shit. (Just move up and down to dodge the
lasers.)
Once you get enough gold and a good weapon, upgrade length as much as you can until it goes way
past the screen.
Then drag your window up. You can walk in the gray area, and if your sword is long enough it can
hit them while even missile attacks will dissapear before getting to you.

Er of course you have to get the coin of bravery that doesn't let you run away. It also takes
quite a bit to get to the point I'm talking about, but it should be possible in about an hour or
two.

the game area and smack the shit out of the enemies

You need gems in order to enchant anything. You don't usually get any gems when you first get
there.
