  I can see where you are coming from. But at the same time I would still recommend it because the
  movies are a bit easier to follow even if they don't hold the same feelings of the series and the
  deviate from the original story. But the fact that the fourth movie has yet to come out also
  needs to be taken into consideration. It may hold some form of explanation for both the deviation
  and the lack of emotional hold it takes on the viewers. The movies could very well be a
  continuation of the series or an alternate timeline caused by the third impact or just a shitty
  remake. We wont know until the series is finished.

  What makes the original series good is the character development and whatnot, most of the
  fighting scenes sucked. The rebuilds, however, are nothing BUT fighting scenes. And if that
  wasn't bad enough, they're still still putting random german folk music in the background despite
  having fifty times the budget. If you don't care about the story and just want CGI robots
  fighting then go watch a Michael Bay movie, simple as that. I don't know why they'd bother with
  evangelion.

  It's a bit like recommending the green mile to someone who just wants to watch prison break.
