It is medically hygienic and keeps down infections. These days there is not much of a reason to

No, it's PURPORTEDLY hygienic. It eliminates a a few potential issues that most people don't
suffer because they actually wash themselves occasionally.
The vast majority of the health benefits provided by circumcision are exaggerated from a few
fringe cases or bad data.
It's similar to performing a double mastectomy on all girls to prevent breast cancer.

As someone who works on infants, it's purely aesthetic. Sometimes we hold off on the procedure in
case we need that skin for grafting, but we don't care either way.
Post-circ care basically involves using lots of petroleum jelly, watching for
bleeding/swelling/infection, and basically teaching parents that we just cut up their kid. Oh,
and giving the kid some meds to help them cope.

skin on the end of it that goes around that pink tip on the end. This skin serves as a pocket
where filth and bacteria can grow and thrive. While there are some good bacterias out there that

People take better care of themselves than they did hundreds of years ago. You can scrub your

Well it is not like they are taking that 15 inch area of skin and grinding it off with a cheese
grater soaked in lemon juice. I think that the standard practice is to cut the circulation off to
the skinned area causing the flesh in that area to die. Sounds horrible but it does not seem to
be painful as the process takes several days and babies don't seem to mind it.
Would i do it today? No probably not. I wouldn't have chosen to get my wisdom teeth removed
either, though the dentist said that there "could be" problems down the line if i didn't. But
whats done is done. But my argument is more based on money aspects than pain. These days they
have pain killers that allow them to remove limbs from people with out too much hassle; i am sure
that if i asked nicely enough they would give me some pain killers if i needed them.
