The original is superior to DBZ in every way. All Z is is a lot of people powering up forever.

*tips fedora*
DBZ has more character development (innocent Goku not only getting stronger but becoming more
fierce when situations call for it such as threatening the fucking Kai himself, Picolo, Trunks,
Vegeta, Gohan, etc.). DBZ has more entertaining and memorable moments. DBZ has Vegeta which
automatically makes it better since Vegeta is probably the best character in the series besides
Piccolo.
>> [_] Anonymous 10/11/14(Sat)16:11 No.2559784
Fleshing out of Gohan's character from a weakling who always relied on his dad, to surpassing his
dad and becoming a bad-ass to beat the villain his dad couldn't, becoming a goofy teenager with
an awkward persona, facing Buu like a boss, etc.
Piccolo, the character that has come a long way since the very beginning. Although in the later
arcs he's too weak to take on the enemies, he still does his best at supporting everyone, being a
better dad than both Vegeta and Goku.

Atleast Goku in DBZ would get his ass kicked. In DB Goku would never get the shit kicked out of
him except with Tao or Piccilo, then he would magically get some sacred water and become more
powerful (plot hole, wtf is in that fucking ultra sacred water).

I'll give you Vegeta, but character development on Goku? Really, anon? We both know better than
that.
>> [_] Anonymous 10/11/14(Sat)16:13 No.2559789
And Vegeta. One of the main reasons DBZ > DB. Fucking Vegeta. The iconic, short, loud
motherfucker. He got more character development than anyone in DB and he is more fun to watch and
more relatable than anyone there.
>> [_] Anonymous 10/11/14(Sat)16:14 No.2559790
DBZ just has everything. People say DB is better because of the adventure aspect, but those
adventures were really nothing special. While in DBZ the fights are some of the best and
memorable in animation history. DBZ has Frieza. DBZ has Trunks, Future Trunks, Future Gohan.
Bulma and Chichi becoming mothers. Goku and Vegeta awkwardly trying to be good fathers in their
own way. Lots of pride, bigger obstacles to endure, more tension and overall just a more
compelling story than DB. Yes, they did power up a lot but it was necessary. It was established
how their powers work and to NOT have them power up will not be consistent with the writing.
Therefore it was a good thing that they powered up or else it would not have made sense. DBZ as a
whole is just better, except maybe for nostalgia faggots who grew up with DB.
In conclusion DBZ > DB. Deal with it.

I like how funny DB is.
Anyway, where'd the intro without all the credit text come from?
>> [_] Anonymous 10/11/14(Sat)16:18 No.2559796
Also, gohan is nothing special. I like the personalities in DB more than the super-saiyan mania'
in Z. Back when the characters were genuinely interested in something other than powerups. And in
DB, the powerups were actually earned by training, not by 'alien powers' or whatever.

Yes, because we all know the old Goku would threaten the supreme kai with violence right?
Goku from the beginning who was fighting Piccolo, Vegeta, Buu with his life. And then being able
to forgive them and be friends with them. Even trusting his own family with them. That's not
character development, right?
Goku going from a slightly awesome fighter with some powers to an overpowered god-like warrior
with many learned techniques. That's not development right?
Goku, the goofy little kid who didn't know much about the world. Becoming a man, being able to
protect the whole world, being able to overcome things that he back then couldn't, that's not
character development right?

>gohan is nothing special
Neither are the other characters from DB. Toriyama isn't well known for writing. He's known for
making fun and entertaining manga. Still, DBZ shits on DB in the character department.

I'm literally on the last two episodes as I've been marathoning it, not sure when it's going to
mention "wishes can only be made once" but I'm guessing that's something DBZ shoehorned in.
Kinda disappointed the opening, eyecatches and credits didn't change across the 153 eps.

The god-like-ness makes him less relateable. I liked the quirkyness of all the characters, and
how none of the characters ever were actually just 'cheerleading'. They all actually played
useful roles in progressing the plot.

Exactly. Goku and Vegeta worked really hard to become Super Saiyans. It's not like they just
easily became that strong and just destroyed everybody. Goku couldn't even beat Cell. Goku is
less of a Mary Sue in DBZ which I like very much. I like kid Goku, he is charming but DBZ Goku as
a character is way better in every aspect.

The fights in DBZ are overall worse than the fights in DB. Flight more or less takes all
environment out of the combat, nearly every character in DBZ has the same powerset with different
power levels, kicks and punches become largely ineffective in final showdowns. Strategy and
actual fighting skill fall far behind sheer power. Anatomy factors like Vegeta, Freezer or Cell
having a tail usually only matter on specific scenes (this is terrible because aliens having a
different anatomy could have led to interesting martial arts, but the concept is barely
explored). Pacing of fights in DBZ (original) is also fucking atrocious.
Bulma, Chichi and most earthlings are largelly non-characters in Z. In the sense that none of
their decisions affect the plot anymore.
Power levels are dumb and unnecessary. They were good for conveying dread, but were one of the
biggest reasons so many other characters were left behind and collateral damage failed to
escalate properly with them.

Not really. Krillin's death in DB felt far more impactful than any of his four deaths in DBZ,
where it became obvious that everyone was eventually going to be brought back from the death
sooner or later.

It did get kind of low-impact at Namek. "The earth dragon can only bring you back once... but
there's another one that can do it as many times as you want. You can also summon him twice as
often, and he's nicer, and he has amazing pecs."

I think it comes down to individual preference. If you like lighthearted comedy and adventure
wrapped up in a martial arts anime, then DB is better. If you want a more serious martial arts
anime, with more serious character development, fights, and consequences, DBZ is better.
