I don't go to /sp/, but from the screen shots, rumors and stories I can imagine it's due to the
nature of the board.
We all know that sports is a subject of shitposting, even in real life. The team picking, the
player routing, the elitism, it's a subject matter thats just begging for shit flinging.
As such, /sp/'s off topic posting and rampant flame wars caused moot to "hire" a very vigilant
mod to clean the board up. It didn't work and /sp/ showed off a collective skill that no other
board could mach, the ability for well over half it's users to turn the entire board into a huge
shitpost against mods.
I'm sure you've seen the screen shot where the entire catalog is nothing but "he does it for
free", that actually happens a lot.
