How the hell does one use this? Is it a quiz of sorts?
>> [_] Anonymous 11/15/14(Sat)19:22 No.2599588
I was better with hirigana anyways. Which is weird, I always figured I'd be better with katakana.

Hiragana is easier to remember. It just is. It's the basic building block of Japanese as the
alphabet and Katakana was an afterthought to foreign language/concepts.

I've been studying for 5 years and studied in abroad all of last year. Even I don't have a strong
grasp of Kanji to do the last two tests. There's a huge gap between JLPT 3 and 2.

From what I understand, it was actually the Portuguese who made Katakana as a way of spelling out
foreign-derived words.

katakana came first actually, hiragana was made because women kept bitching about how katakana
was too hard to read

No, Katakana was developed by Buddhist monks as a shorthand. Hiragana and Katakana were separate
entirely in terms of development, but Hiragana is generally considered the base-line. Kids don't
learn Katakana until much after Hiragana.

I can study it and learn it when I'm really puting time into it, but the problem comes from not
having a good amount of practice time in a practical way. When you practice it by seeing it all
over, like I did in Japan, you see stuff on signs and just remember readings.

oh.
well i ordered Japanese short novels and manga, and print out news articles to practice since i

2:40 96 right 4 wrong, 2 because of typos
i never bothered with kanji so the only benefits i get from this are impressing weeaboos and
reading skill names from games
