If you want to speak decent Japanese one day, test yourself by matching each 片仮名 to the corresponding 平仮名, and vice-versa. Plus, you have to do it TWICE, once for hiragana and once for katakana. Afterwards, though, learn grammar and particles and from there on out it's just vocab and kanji. Lots of vocab and kanji. And trust me, even the most rudimentary knowledge will come in handy in a pinch.
