naming your character and choosing a class and race?

Oh absolutely, you can min-max -anything- if you put your mind to it.
Your race determines your stat growth rates, and your class determines which stats go up at
level-up as well as what gear types you use.
Then the random spells your character purchases also have an actual affect on things; as you can
see Dex King's awful choice of buying level 1 Concentration gives him a +1 Int which is
completely useless to a Rogue.

You may be able to F5 and load your character from an autosave. I forget exactly how they work.
In other news, Dex King has hit level 6 and purchased another level of Concentration, and is now
getting quests in the Crystal River and Oasis that are doing nothing but wasting my time because
the enemies only need to score one dodge to kill my poor glass cannon.
Am considering a reroll.
