It does not, however, in any way relate to current wage politics nor the whole 'pay gap' business, because the subjects are actually doing equal work. The most commonly quoted statistics on the gender pay gap, for example, does not account for the choice of profession: women working in service and men working in STEM are shoved into the same pot, and there are more men working in STEM than women and vice versa. Men are more willing to forego comfort and convenience for higher salaries than their counterparts, who place a higher priority on workplace contentment. The gender pay gap is as real as the gap between cashiers and CEOs. |
