Having another optical format war would have been fucking hell. It was bad enough with DVDs and the various kinds of discs. At least with Blu-ray, the spec was standard and future proof. HD-DVDs roadmap was of incompatibility. >> [_] Anon 2410321 I remember a friend being like. HD DVD forever! till i told him they could hold 15GB vs the 25GB blu rays. They looked the same to me otherwise. but why would you go for the cheaper one? Glad this war is over. till the internet kills it. >> [_] Anon 2410325 >># I remember way back on the PS3Forums before it all collapsed and went to shit. There was this one guy called kingarthur[somethingsomethingnumbers] Mainly hung out on the Xbox part of the forum, and he was such a huge fanboy it was hilarious. And the way he typed was always a good joke amongst us in the staff forums. (mainly if you read his posts as if it was a rap, it made them much funnier) He was such a massive diehard fan of HD DVD. So much so that when it was killed, he literally left the forums forever. So fucking mad over something so trivial. For fun, every month for like a year, I always reminded him of it on his clans websites mini chat section. >> [_] Anon 2410329 It's VHS vs Betamax all over again... >> [_] Anon 2410339 >># >Having another optical format war What? I don't recall an optical disk competitor to DVDs when they came out. >> [_] Anon 2410356 >># There was. DVD+ and DVD- were incompatible derivative formats. DVD- was supporrted by the DVD Forum. But DVD+ was considerably better in every way besides a tiny amount of less space.(like, 10k bytes or some shit) Eventually it just merged in to DVD+- discs and more of them got compatibility where it never mattered. Shit was annoying as fuck though. >> [_] Anon 2410365 >># >recording media is the same as hd blueray war.... >> [_] Anon 2410366 >># I actually have an HD-DVD drive stuffed in the back of my closet...

File: Blu-ray Vs. HD DVD What's Better.swf-(2.41 MB, 320x240, Other) [_] /f/ is awesome Anon 2133915 >> [_] Anon 2133923 so they basically did free advertisement for Sony's Blu-Ray. Good job unbiased news. >> [_] Anon 2133938 >># At this point it's probably all run by corporations anyway. >> [_] Anon 2133946 >># Its cheaper, BUT DON'T BUY IT, since most production companies offer Blu-Ray, but had a demand for HDDVD players been higher, and production companies weren't selling blu-ray copies, they would have switched to Toshiba's format and we would have had cheaper players. (read: you, the consumer, don't matter anymore. Its how we wanna play it) >> [_] Anon 2133947 >># HD DVD is actually a shittier format. They have to split LOTR Extended Edition on Blu-Ray in two discs like how you had to watch Titanic in two tapes. So thats 50gb. HD DVD had 25gb maximum. >> [_] Anon 2134017 >># le master ruseman >> [_] Anon 2134019 >># Listen here dipshit. 1. HD DVD is not a format. 2. >They have to split LOTR Extended Edition >on Blu-Ray in two discs like how you had to >watch Titanic in two tapes. >So thats 50gb. No, less than that, but the fact remains it's fucking huge. 3. >HD DVD had 25gb maximum. Confirmed for braindead faggot. >> [_] Anon 2134056 >># http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD <<HD DVD = 15GB/30GB single/dual layer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc <<Blu-Ray DVD = 25GB/50GB single/dual layer Assuming, of course, you're not using double sided discs. And no, HD DVD is not a format. He's only half a dipshit. >> [_] Anon 2134062 ...Honestly? I prefer Blu Ray players. Then again, I've got a cheap system that can play them. It's called a PlayStation 3, and in the long run, it's better than buying a machine that can only play two types of discs. Not to mention a PlayStation 3 controller is easier to use than that shitty looking remote with a thousand buttons. >> [_] Anon 2134065 Who cares anymore it;s all about digital copies now.
