have to say ever since the scandal about steam trying to ruin modding for pc ive come to realize
what a bad company they are. taking a 75% cut is really not alright.

I've listened to a lot of opinions on the subject because I used to be really into modding, and
elder scrolls games just wouldn't be the same without the abundance of mods (700 hours in skyrim
here).
The community really overreacted about this. Valve fucked it up bigtime, but the community had a
huge kneejerk reaction. Valve wasn't trying to "ruin modding", they were trying to make modding
legitimate. People just saw a cash grab, but on the other side they were trying to make it so
devoted and talented modders could be further motivated to make good mods. There was some good
justification for the large cut to valve and bethesda, mostly due to legal issues that were sure
to arise.
That being said, I'm not sad that they pulled it. It has its pros and cons, but I think mods are
doing fine as side hobby projects, and if paid mods are a thing we're going to see most good mod
content locked behind a paywall. I don't think we've seen the last of it though. I'm willing to
bet fallout 4 is going to launch with paid mod support, with valve applying what they learned
with the fuckup in trying to implement it on skyrim 4 years after launch.

It wasn't only steam getting a 75% get
I believe steam was like 25% and then bethesda wanted 50%
steam is holding the service so i feel it is completely legitimate that they want a cut
bethesda only made the game and released it, the modding community helps give new life into the
game, making more people buy it. Them taking a little money makes sense, but shouldnt be more
than like 20 or 10.
tldr
Steam only took part of the 75, bethesda took the rest
steam holds the servers for mods deserves some dosh
bethesda gets more people who want their games, deserves less dosh, if any

A donation option would have been much better, which is why a lot of people (including me) saw
paid mods as a cash grab.
If Steam and Bethesda gave a shit about modders then they would have made it an option as opposed
to forcing paid mods on the community.
The Nexus already has a donation option, which works pretty well.

>If Steam and Bethesda gave a shit about modders
Why would they?
