Vocaloids are not people and are just software with characters that go along with the voice that is being marketed so that they are more appealing. Miku is now a "pop idol", but she is basically the first really popular pop idol that was a character and not an actual person which makes her stand out and gathers a lot of fans because it's something that hasn't been done a lot before. She is over-marketed as fuck and isn't my favorite Vocaloid, but at the same time it's just a software and is something that hadn't been done much before/was the first thing like this to get so much recognition so people are big fans. Of course there's going to be a lot of marketing involving Miku and there's nothing to get so pissy about.
