File: Andy Stubbings.swf-(4.08 MB, 640x480, Japanese) [_] Brand New Content Anon 3177960 Marked for deletion (old). >> [_] Anon 3177970 >># Needs more Suzuran. A lot more! https://qt.vidyagam.es/q8FiyHV.jpg >> [_] Anon 3177979 The story behind this is that I was going through some old CDs, found and subsequently destroyed one with content from old /b/ and a bunch of warez we used to use. This one was on it and caught my eye, as its a truly forgotten meme, even by me. The oldest disk I could find was created in November 2001. Pre-4chan memes are few and far between now. Definitely feels there. Anyway, that's why you have this rare Andy. >> [_] Anon 3177980 >># I remember talking to you in that thread. Fun times. I still haven't recovered my old drive though. One day. I keep telling myself. (even though I am 90% sure its head smashed in to the platter...) >> [_] Anon 3177985 >># The drive I had with the good stuff (2003-07) is for sure RIP. Searching for Andycam I was surprised to find the only resource was Macrochan (a site that is now obscure). Lots of good old memes there. I'm honestly debating whether or not I should get a tattoo of waha in honor of my 25th anniversary of being on the internet, which is coming up very soon. >> [_] Anon 3177988 >># Huh, so is this from one of those old "how to tap into unsecured webcams" threads? Man, those were fun, too bad now most webcams are being secured out of the box and people aren't quite as tech illiterate. >># Appreciate it mate, got any other good /f/ (or otherwise) content on there ya wanna share? >> [_] Anon 3177992 >># Yeah, surprised Macrochan is still up. Loads of old stuff there. Sadly lots of old stuff missing as well. And since it was mainly designed for image macros, loads of old memes not there too. And then there are entirely different imageboards as well. SovietRussia was fantastic, especially on /z/. But he killed the site around the time CP-spamming fags found overchan and found "deadchans" to upload CP to. This day just happened to be SR/cats/. >> [_] Anon 3177994 >># I modded /z/ there several times when it was still up. Easily the weirdest alternative chan. Some of it's content can still be reached through Internet Archive. The iichan network as a whole is sorely missed. I can't even remember when there was a /z/ here, I might not have been here for it or just wasn't interested. I remember when I first found this place I didn't think it was that special and only came back later. Shows what I knew... >> [_] Anon 3177997 >># Oh boy was it weird. It still amazed me how there was basically no serious abuse of the admin page for it. I mean, you could embed fucking anything. That could even mean screamers, last measure and such. The most serious abuse there was replacing every instance of AND with I'M A HUGE FAGGOT PLEASE RAPE MY FACE Some stuff I still had saved. https://qt.vidyagam.es/JArptd2.gif https://qt.vidyagam.es/IYWfHi3.gif /z/ here was, uh, 2004-05 I think. Around that time. Pretty sure it never made it to 06. I'm not sure if /5/ made it that far either. I think it sort of just spilled over to /b/ and vanished suddenly. The amount of flashing 5 emoticon spam. And hard gay. That always made me laugh. >> [_] Anon 3178002 >># I was never skilled enough to seriously modify the board, but some of them were really inventive. When I first saw it, it was ROBOTS, Gabber music and flashing text. Other ones I remember are a weird black cyberpunk background with that Brittany Murphy house track playing. Or Kirby sprites flying all over the page, and Mao Zedong tiled as the background with almost all text replaced with "ROCKETSHIPS" and "VELVET CORRIDOR". I've never met anyone who used the site other than me. Their music board was pretty good too. Huh. Are you a chan historian or just Anonymii? >> [_] Anon 3178005 >># Yeah, some of the edits were hilarious. I loved the nice comfy edits that usually had some music loop running. I still have a bunch of the flash files used for said loops. As for archiving stuff, mainly just saved everything I come across. I have a bunch of stuff saved from random sites, but mostly here, 7, 8, 420chan (despite not doing drugs lel), SAoVQ and SovietRussia. Once I get everything moved to new drives, I'll probably upload them all somewhere. Shits saved on 10 year old drives. Seagate ones at that! Every other Seagate drive I have bought has failed horribly, except these 2. ONOZ. >> [_] Anon 3178008 >># None of the smaller chans are what they once were, but I think 420 has suffered the most, meaning they've become almost like any other message board but with a slightly different format. It lost it's soul when /i/ was nuked and they started banning anime and promoting wrestling. The motto used to be "animu, drugs and dongs" and now it's just drugs and dongs. Boring. I was part of the original SAoVQ but I have no idea what they're doing now, and in fact I heard it was dead. These days I gravitate towards select boards here and places like 4-ch, even though it's a post museum and nothing of note has ever happened there. Good luck with that project, you might even be able to market it somehow as an oldfag repository. >> [_] Anon 3178012 >># Yeah, I heard some bad things about 420. I know 7chan is still buttmad in their collective /b/day rage. SAoVQs imageboard died, but textboard is still up. They launched an image gallery, which I think is heavily moderated to prevent more CP spams (reason it is gone too) Shame. There was part of a community that were only there for the imageboard. And that part is gone now. (mind you, a bunch of them still reside on /jp/ and bun.) More archivers here as well, actually. http://bunbunmaru.com/kareha/projects/#1 >> [_] Anon 3178014 >># Oh god, scratch that, bun seems to be suffering a spam problem again. Not looked at there in a while. RIP >> [_] Anon 3178025 >># Yeah, the last few years have not been kind to the smaller chans, like half of them died in the last two or three years alone. I even heard railchan went down for a bit, but I think it was up last I checked. Also, on the topic of textboards it's strange, but even with hirohito running 4chan we still haven't gotten the textboards back after moot nuked them. I miss those things, there's only a handful of textboards left and almost all of them are 1 post a month affairs. >> [_] Anon 3178030 >># Yeah, textboards have suffered a pretty nasty death. Saddens me. I've said to Hiro a few times he could revive a bunch of textboards in a similar style to /news/, where only OP posts images. As well as convert a bunch of image-dump boards to this format too, to save bandwidth. A considerable number of those boards already have content off-site in an infinitely better tagged format. Having discussion about them is fine, but the constant reposts I see on /c/, /d/, /e/, /h/ and so on is just annoying. /news/-like textboards would create an interesting revival of the idea and eliminate the constant "SAAAUCE" and "GOOGLE IT" arguments since the content IS the source. It would be nice. Maybe one day. >> [_] Anon 3178036 Text boards just never took off as they did in Japan and there seems to be no suggestion this will change in the future. Although the continued expansion of the internet domain sans privacy may usher in a future era where they see some action. Who knows. My personal opinion is that most people are simply too stupid or don't have the attention span to rest on a board that's just text, like the bbs of yesteryear. I personally dig them. They're so easy on my tired eyes and largely drama-free. >> [_] Anon 3178041 >># The other side of the coin though is that on 4chan when someone is forcing a meme or trollish behavior/shitposting, it largely goes unnoticed and barely takes away from the experience. On a textboard, it's like someone shit all over the place, and you can't use it for a week. One of the only positive things about this place being so active. >> [_] Anon 3178048 >># Yeah, can't beat a nice bit of chat on a textboard. And the ASCII / SJIS art is a bonus. (especially if the site has support for it with the proper fonts) >># Very true. There are advantages to slow and fast moving discussion. Personally the saddest thing that happened to this site was a very clear split between the staff and users. Back during the early days of visible and active mods, it was fun. Then when moot was tricked by that prick Menchi in to trialling invisible moderation, the site took a nosedive in a few months. Shitposting spreads exponentially, it seems. After they tried to bring visible moderation back, mods=fags was born and the slow and steady wedge between both grew and grew. Fucking menchi should have stayed on World2ch that nobody cared about. >> [_] Anon 3178051 >># Haa, Menchi. I thought mods=fags was kind of funny, now you see posters "screaming" for mods like it's supposed to do something. Never would that have happened on my 4chan. There was a general consensus among us and it was somewhat self-moderating. The state of moderation here is so woeful now that they must be taking truly terrible people into the ranks. I feel there's no point in trying, or I'd have volunteered by now. >> [_] Anon 3178057 >># Yeah I would have to agree with you on that. This community is too far gone to be saved by nazi-levels of moderation like when Snacks was bored. Of course, the good part is those people would likely leave. (like what happened with /pol/ when IDs were added. oh god the assmad that caused) I'd love to see IDs site-wide. All the "nonimus legun!" kiddies would vanish in a heart-beat. Even funnier when they go on about "but my 2chans! anonymous!", what, that site filled with 3 octets from an IP that is even more trackable than IDs are? Oh yeah, that site. Oh, wait, it's only 2 octets now. About the same now. >> [_] Anon 3178063 >># Speaking of Futaba Channel, my most prized rare memes were from there. Part of the reason I love Suzuran, she is still featured there almost daily. >> [_] Anon 3178066 >># She sure is super. Macro I made for Drawball back in the day. https://qt.vidyagam.es/4bxQRu6.png Oh man, the Virus Buddy sticky on /b/. Best sticky ever. Lightbulb faggot related https://qt.vidyagam.es/pBp8S6X.PNG >> [_] Anon 3178072 >># Cute! >> [_] Anon 3178077 >tfw people talking about when this site was young >tfw newfag >> [_] Anon 3178089 >># I'm with ya. I passed through here once in 2004 looking for a specific gif, decided it was a weird porn site and wandered off not to return til like 2010. I was completely unfamiliar with chans in general. It hurts seeing people reminisce about old things you could've been there for but missed out on, especially voluntarily. I'll never know what it's like to play LAN party Counter Strike or own an old Nintendo console as a kid because I was too fucking busy playing single-player PS1 games. I have no Internet friends whatsoever and here's people meeting after a decade apart. I didn't even know what fucking Newgrounds or ABS were until 2009. Can I trade lives with someone else? I wasted this one even by /f/ user standards. >> [_] Anon 3178099 >># >Still think of myself as a newfag >Been here 6 years now Ha-heh-awwwhhhhh ;_: >> [_] Anon 3178100 >># Newfag isn't something that goes away with time, that argument isn't in play here. You are one for life. >> [_] Anon 3178101 >># That's not what I meant, I meant it still seams like I got here yesterday, and yet I've wasted six whole years using this site daily. Where the fuck has my time gone and how do I get it back. >> [_] Anon 3178102 >># >12 years here >been ill for 11 of those years, too ill to work >seeing time pass away >even moot moved on from here >I'm still here. I've now been on 4chan longer than moot as of the past couple months. Oh god. Time to go shitpost on /g/ about macs. >> [_] Anon 3178103 >># >>even moot moved on from here >Implying he doesn't still shitpost on /a/ >> [_] Anon 3178105 >># I dunno. I left /a/ when the no-fun-allowed-crowd ruined it from 2010 onwards. >> [_] Anon 3178107 /a/ is distasteful, yet essential to the site. Removing /a/ would be like 4chan trying to hold its breath, any sustained period of time would result in dying. >> [_] Anon 3178110 >># >Best sticky ever. I missed this, do tell... >> [_] Anon 3178111 >># Started off with that little guy in the picture and "Hey guys, it's me, virus buddy!" Then began an epic tale of viruses fighting over a mans body, calling each other names. Pretty much every post was an image contribution to the thread. Basically no shitposting. Ended up with a giant flying space needle. >you'll never know if the giant space needle saved that poor man from space herpes. Wish I could get it off my shitty dead drive. It was an external Seagate drive, the board for that died, so removed it and put it in PC. But eventually the logic board for it died as well. I don't ever want to give Seagate any more money, but I might well need to buy a duplicate drive just to get those files back by replacing the board on it. I fucking hate hard drives. Worst invention ever. All we needed to do was improve floppy disc density and quality, no stupid mechanisms on the drive. It woulda been perfect! Zip drives were going places! BUT NOOOO. Lets make the DISKS expensive instead. FUCK. >> [_] Anon 3178114 >># Sounds surreal. How long was it? Funny you should mention zip drives, I found one when looking through my disks last night. Probably nothing but high school projects on it. I didn't discover this place until I was already going to college. The thought of high schools overflowing with memes is a foreign concept to me. >> [_] Anon 3178119 >># Eh, pretty mid-length, about 150 if I remember. In fact, that might have been the image limit. I loved Zip drives. I really wish they stuck around. But we ended up with solid lumps of shit metal and circuits made on the cheap. HDDs are so shit quality that they regularly get failing sectors over time, hence the need for the logic boards to remap those failed sectors to working sectors. They were a solution that created the problem! How the fuck do you even? Usually it is a solution in search of a problem, not creating the damn thing. >> [_] Anon 3178155 >># Contact the bibanon archivers, they are pretty autistic about archiving 4chan stuff, but in a good day, if you have early 4chan stuff they will certainly help you >># Menchi? he apparently still mods if the 2015 leaks are true. that would make him the oldest staffer still active. I'll never know if he was shii or not. Regarding invisible moderation, it's not the first time I see people complaining that it was a crippling change to the site. I think they dodged a bullet. The site was inevitably getting bigger and mod personalities would have been hated. I do however wish that mods actually took the time to talk with the figs. More communication would only do good. >># dumb elitism. >> [_] Anon 3178159 >># I actually talk with bibanon. I've been meaning to e-mail him again, keep forgetting to. When all these files get transferred, will be upping like a mad-man. Writing a simple file sorting tool just now to help automate a large amount of that process. Just got it to get files in modified date and sort. Now to automate putting them in to folders. Going to just place them all in folders of [file-type] / [file ext]. So, images/jpg, images/png, etc. https://qt.vidyagam.es/28nuIbg.png >> [_] Anon 3178165 >># It's not a dumb elitism, it's an objective fact that someone who came here post-MSM coverage and the ubiquity of 4chan-driven internet memes in popular culture can never experience what it was like before then. If you were here prior to the term being used (daily/widespread usage), you're not fucking one then. It's pretty simple. Someone who arrived in 2010 can't call themselves an oldfag because they've been here for 6 years, even if someone who was here in 2004 was for only a year. It's not a reflection of intelligence or experience. But it's silly to argue about it. >> [_] Anon 3178180 To be honest thinking about it is triggering me a little bit, the great newfag/oldfag schism in late 2007 was one of the worst times for 4chan ever. So many times I said to myself "if i see one more thread about this shit..." I was browsing the site daily at the time and it reached totally intolerable levels. >> [_] Anon 3178183 >># Chanology was pretty bad. But even then, it still wasn't 2010 levels. 2007 and after was bearable up till that point on a bunch of boards. But 2010... fucking 2010. The site can be fixed, but it will mean shedding a massive number of users through huge changes to the site. And given what Hiroyuki and the number of users is saying, it might come sooner than we think. Already new Janitors being added. And the new ads before. What little money moot was able to make before Hiroyuki took over, it is completely unreachable now. This site is running at a pretty bad loss. in p4 /pol/ conspiracies. I trust Hiroyuki far far more than that prick that stole 2 websites from its webmasters. (his and Hotwheels) His name completely blanked on me there. I know it was short. >> [_] Anon 3178185 >feeling nostalgia and regrets just because of the oldfags' narrative of that time, even though I was still 4. >inb4 underageb& >> [_] Anon 3178188 >># Jon something? >> [_] Anon 3178190 >># I think Josh. But I was thinking that was the fag Hotwheels "hired" to write InfinityNext. Maybe it is.
