When I was in high school, we had a project where we did basically this, except we were asking people to sign our petition. The trick was, our petition was just the exact working of the fourth amendment to the US constitution (you know, the one that says law enforcement needs a warrant from a judge to search or seize your belongings). We literally could not find anyone who believed in the fourth amendment. Not one person. >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)03:07:10 No.2916843 >>2916835 Wait.. am I reading that right? SHIT! >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)03:22:24 No.2916856 >>2916843 No one was like 'Law enforcement should be able to steal whatever they want', but it was a common complaint, that law enforcement would be unduly constrained if they had to get permission from a judge every time they needed to investigate someone. Im kind of a law nerd now. So, just for clarification the fourth amendment doesnt actually say cops always need a warrant to search or seize. The exact wording says they cant search or seize unreasonably, and that warrants have to be specific. The legal point here, is that not every search and seizure requires a warrant. Anyway, its pretty fucked up that no one actually cares for the fourth amendment right? Its like, police brutality problems and NSA problems are always phrased as a people vs government issue. Thats not the case at all. The reality is that the only people who care about privacy are the government and minority interest groups like the EFF and the ACLU. Kind of makes me sympathize with law enforcement a bit, because they do more to protect privacy rights than anyone else actually wants them to do, AND, they get tons of shit from the political discussion about how much privacy they violate. Its like they are damned if they do, and damned if they dont. >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)03:28:24 No.2916858 >>2916856 Huh. Well, I browse /pol/ every once in a while, so I'm obligated to ask your thoughts on the 2nd amendment. But I mean, I like that the US protects gun rights. Yeah I dont know what you are asking. That US citizens cant remain a violent threat to the US government is a uniquely american trait, so therefore as an American I love it, regardless as to whether it makes for good policy. >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)03:45:33 No.2916866 >>2916814 It's the same everywhere m8 soundbytes, single-issue voting and irrelevant politics (tiem 4 woman in the white house :DDDD), carry the day. They are affluent enough that they can afford to be dumb, and confident enough to just say whatever dumb shit they can think of. Its not a good thing, but, I do think its pretty bitchin that America can literally afford to be dumb. We can just sit around being morons and say dumb shit and it doesnt matter at all. Yuropoors cant afford to be dumb like Americans. They all live in these shitty bureaucratic nanny states with inferior GDPs. Life is harder, and if they are outspoken and dumb bad things happen to them. >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)03:55:14 No.2916873 votin' bernie >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)04:22:01 No.2916885 I know that when trying to find people on the street to interview, you will have a hard time finding people that aren't >>2916870 The point is, the people that want to be interviewed are the people that are going to say dumb things on camera. >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)04:26:39 No.2916888 >>2916856 I'm actually just starting to get interested in the laws of our nation and such. Do you know anywhere I could get reliable information about our current laws? >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)04:39:39 No.2916889 >>2916888 Well, it depends on if you mean Statute or laws. The whole US Federal Code is online. Meaning if you just want to read statutes, they are out there. So when you see it in the news that Obamacare or the USA freedom act passed, you can go read it. Thats not law though, I dont think normal people realize that. Law is what gets produced in court rooms, by judges. So if you want to study law I say go read court rulings. Its hard to know where to point you, because so much of it is interesting. Try Korematsu vs the US, the famous case where the SCOTUS upheld the internment of japanese citizens. US vs Jones is a pretty accessable recent SCOTUS ruling. Ive also read a lot of academic papers. My favorite scholars are Orin Kerr, Eugene Volokh, Randy Barnett, and Eric Posner. Literally anything they have written is good. Richard Posner is widely considered to be the best living judge. Judge Learned Hand is a famous judge. Justice Holmes is considered to have been our best supreme court justice, and he wrote famous opinions supporting forced sterilization, and the suppression of the community party. Brandeis is one of my favorites. Justice Jackson is considered to be one of the best as well. Read any opinion by any of them and you are bound to learn something valuable. >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)04:47:27 No.2916890 >>2916889 I wasn't expecting such a good response. Anyway about this yuropoors meme... America is around 46 times the size of Britain. That makes us around the size of your average state. Your richest state, by GDP, is California $2.2 trillion (USD). It is over twice the size of Britain. Whereas our tiny island has a GDP of $2.9 trillion. Also our currency is worth more. But perhaps we should compare the entire EU. In terms of size is it less than half the size of America (4.3m sqkm vs 9.8m sqkm), but has a total GDP of $18.5 trillion against America's $17.4 trillion. So smaller Europe is actually richer than the USA even with broke counties like Greece, and that's just the EU members. >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)05:08:37 No.2916896 >>2916891 >a total GDP of $18.5 trillion against America's $17.4 trillion. Well okay, but you guys also have ~66% more people than the US. So the GDP per capita is still a lot smaller. Thats a more meaningful metric. As economic producers, each European person is producing only like 70% of the value an American produces. Anyway, you motivated me to check out wikipedias list of states, and its pretty diverse, just like European states. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_GDP_per_capita >> [_] dankest chiptune 10/01/15(Thu)05:13:51 No.2916898 >>2916792 people always vote against the candidate they dislike, not for the candidate they like go watch some CGPgrey videos >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)05:28:12 No.2916906 >>2916896 We have shit-tier countries like Greece, Romania, the Baltic states, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Bulgaria, Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, Poland and the Czech Republic bringing down our average. We don't even have Norway or Switzerland. Many of those are poorer than your poorest states. On top of that America has much more natural resources, particularly oil, than the whole of Europe. And to fuck over Russia's economy you flooded the oil market with the Saudis so we are now losing money on it. Oh and most of your country is owned by the top 10%. So while the few get very rich have fun going bankrupt over a broken leg. >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)06:36:26 No.2916915 Americafag reporting - I'm proud of Anon (and namefag :p ) tonight, youse guize are actually carrying on a rather intelligent discussion - something I've not seen in many moons around here. Can't really add much here, it's all been said above. Yeah, the stupidity involved in the voting process is not inherently American, European, or any "an". It's part of human nature to become sassy when fat. It's the fate of every civilization to collapse under its own weight once it reaches a certain plateau - that weight was once carried by care in thinking, and striving for something better - when that's been reached, the "Atlas" of people relaxes, and stops putting forth the care it takes to remain vital. Then you get Rule for The Ignorant, by The Ignorant. Founding principles cease to matter, and eventually the society is eroded away by non-fundamental forces like Mars' atmosphere under the solar wind. >> [_] Anonymous 10/01/15(Thu)07:16:44 No.2916933 >IM STILL NOT VOTING FOR TRUMP!!!!! Wow, you really are a strong, independent womyn who dont need no cisgendered white males. What a cunt, glad her face is so busted. Also, reminder that your vote means nothing.
