I'm really interested in the fates of people from Newgrounds' heyday. It was a time that simply
can't be replicated in this day and age, with Youtube being the new hotness and it subsequently
killing flash animation it's hard to be appreciated for work that, let's face it, is mediocre.
Thanks for sharing.

Flash animation is easily uploadable to Youtube, though. I've seen plenty of animators
reuploading their old movies in HD.
Not to mention that a LOT of cartoons are done in Flash now, as well. It's not going anywhere
anytime soon. People are bitching about the exploits/security/vulnerabilities or whatever, but if
that was the be-all end-all we wouldn't all be using fucking Windows.

Yet the problem with YouTube is that due to the way it works, it's not very animator friendly. A
decent length animation takes at least a few days to put out. In fact, I'm going to estimate a
week or two, maybe more. Don't actualy know, I've never animated a thing in my life. Meanwhile,
someone with a video camera can create numerous 10 minute videos in the same amount of time.
Now, sure, quantity doesn't equal quality, but YouTube doesn't work that way. Not any more. Their
algorithms actually give preferential treatment based on minutes of video watched and frequency
of uploads. This means that someone like Pewdiepie, who puts out a fuckhuge number of videos on a
weekly basis, is going to get their videos pushed on the front page a hell of a lot more than
your average Flash animator. In fact, looking at YouTube right now, I can only see two
animations; the rest is a combination of music videos, music "videos", game footage and LPs, a
series of recorded D&D sessions, a channel to do with firearms YouTube thinks I want to subscribe
to, and because I live in Britbongistan, the Rugby World Cup.
If I were an animator looking to put my work out their, YouTube would not be my first choice for
hosting content.

HOLY FUCK. This threw me back.

It was a magical time. My fate is that i haven't touched flash for years now, and eventually lost
the desire to create. Fuck i wish that kind of creative drive carried on into adulthood. Now i
just drink beer and watch things other people put out. It just isnt as fun to create things
anymore for some reason, it really sucks. That used to be my main source of entertainment.

I agree completely.
