That's not even mentioning the multiple victims bodies that apparently never existed. If the story had any message at all it may be that drugs will fuck with your head, I dunno.

And the victim's bodies did exist, it's just that the real estate agent that found them covered it up so she would be able to sell the apartment easier. The whole book is about how apathetic people are and how this consumerist society places more value on how people appear than anything else ("but on the inside doesn't matter"). Also the reason why Bateman's lawyer says that he had lunch with Paul Owen a few days ago is because people are always mistaking each other, everyone looks the same and most people don't even notice if someone disappears.
