The purpose of anime isn't just merchandising.
In the case of Danmachi and many other adaptations, they're also promoting original light novel
series. Anime is made for Japan, it's a major part of their domestic market.
If you want anime that don't focus around promotion and harems, you have to put money into their
original anime series, not just watch their shows through torrents or streams.
As much as CrunchyRoll is hated, at least they're providing to the industry. They brought anime
to the casual foreign audience and helps provide reason for companies to even consider releasing
their dvds/bds/lns/manga here. To be metaphorical, you're not going to toss your lure into the
middle of a lake before seeing if your bait would actually catch the interest of any local fish.
CR tests the waters for foreign audiences and if they sell, then the translated original stuff
will appear in major stores (Amazon, Barnes&Nobel, etc).
tl;dr: unfuck the industry by putting your money into the stuff you want to see more of.

This guy understands the problem, of course I already saw the greatest anime ever made and
nothing else can compare but at least the problem has been identified and made public. Well as
public as a 4chan post on a flash board can be.

the problem was predicted nearly a decade ago, and has been identified time and time again. it's
just not going away, because the people who understand it the most in-depth are usually the
people with the least money to throw around.
