Actual furries, not just people that jack off to porn. Anyway why are people suggesting this is priced to high. Economics of value is extremely complicated. It's not supply and demand, in some cases it's price due to low demand. For example: I know 10 people are going to buy X product. Product cost 100$ to make. Demand is low, but price per unit must equal product cost at the very least. So at a minimum i'd charge 10$ per person. This would be ridiculous to do; because no one is going to sell shit at cost. It doesn't work that way, a profit or incentive needs to exist, or the quality will suffer, or the product be non existent. This is when something is priced for demand. If you know of a niche to fill, you need to make a profit on that niche market. This is where things get real: Furry's that buy shit, are the minority. Furry's that exist are also a minority. You are filling a niche market that is a minority, of a minority. The amount of people this specifically targets to is even more restrictive, from visual style, to fetishes in the video. So this video seems like it's pretty high quality. I know how much work these types of projects take. Let's assume 1,000 people buy that product. That's 20,000$. How much do you think this 45 minute film, that is fairly high quality, has 3 sets of subtitles for various languages, has full voice acting(Not that it's good, but they tried and it's not horrible), and a physical copy of the film on DVD? You're losing 5$ per physical DVD at low scale costs when you factor in cost of disc, box, artwork and other things included. So they made 15,000$. Oh did I said made? Oh yeah, people assume time is free. This isn't a project a single person could do in a year, and if a single person could do this in a year, then they'd have made less then minimum wage in the US for this project, a years worth of time. Most likely it's a team of around 5, and they did it in around 3 months. Still less then minimum wage for those 5 people. So again, how is this overpriced? 1,000 copies is pretty generous, but then you gotta factor in even if it's double or triple, you're just paying the people a livable wage at that point. In the end this won't really turn a huge profit, not like people are claiming. In the end it's a good thing because if they break even or exceed that goal they make more of this stuff. Might even be better quality, might even have better voice acting. Which is a good thing. Now for the real question: Why the fuck did I bother typing this out when people will argue it should be worth nothing, or a dollar regardless of facts. >> Anonymous 8jun2016(we)00:47 No.34165 G P23R20 >>34164 You seem so passionate about this topic. >> Anonymous 8jun2016(we)01:01 No.34167 K P24R21 >>34165 I'm passionate about people not understanding certain concepts. When people say something is overpriced you need to demonstrate that. If the answer to what it should be worth ensures the product wouldn't exist, or exist in an altered/worse state, then that means the argument is false. If you know you can sell 100,000 copies then sure maybe 10$ would be the best price for something like this. I'm honestly surprised they are selling it for 20$, but they probably picked this price for a few factors. * What people are at the max people are willing to pay for it. That might be 30$, but 35$ might ensure you sell 0 copies. * Price depending on number of sales or units sold. At 30$ some people might be willing to buy it, but if at 20$ 5,000 people buy it, but at 30$ only 1,000 people buy it, obviously 20$ is the price you go for. * This also leads into underpricing. 15$ maybe 6,000 would buy it. But then they would have made 60,000 as opposed to 75,000. * Pricing on similar products. I mean economics is weird, and there is a thousand factors. Honestly someone probably just did a quick bit of math, said similar DVD's sell for 20$, and they chose 20$. That makes sense, and is pretty much what you should do. In the end market decides. If you overestimated, you will end up selling at a loss and never doing a similar project again or for the next project dial back the quality. >> Anonymous 8jun2016(we)01:08 No.34169 G P25R22 >>34167 I see. There is something to you overlook, and that is the fact that this kind of merchandise can generate more utility in an efficient way by distributing in on a digital platform. Also remember that furries are bashed because they take decisions that are lunatic such as paying >$ 100 (even 500) a mediocre drawfag for a mediocre piece of "art". That's why many people use that as a precedent of comparasion when they see this 3d stuff. >> Anonymous 8jun2016(we)01:14 No.34170 K P26R23 >>34169 Yeah there is bad people in all corners. Some people don't understand economics, or they play a dangerous game where they assume since no one else does X, they can charge whatever for X. Then backlash and others come in who do it better for cheaper. Those people are fucked though because a few shitty people actually do bolster their ego by paying it, and in the end they never change and assume they aren't selling more because it's being leaked online. They also don't understand reasonable expectation of loss. Pirating will happen, you gotta learn to live with it. Doesn't make it right, but it gets to a point fighting it costs more then just leaving it go. I guess I posted originally because in this specific case these people seemed to actually price the product accordingly and for what you're getting it's a good value I suppose. People just assume every 45 minute video is identical without realizing how many people buy X type of video, vs how many X type of video of Y quality exists. I got a little miffed due to that, because for once the furries are doing it fucking right on pricing. Though in defense of some people: Commissions are not the same as buying an image. Which is why it bothers me when people complain an artist is selling a SINGLE PICTURE for 100$. No, most times they are selling them for a dollar or less, or part of a pack. You just wanted to be a special snowflake and have that artist draw bugs bunny BUT he had 1 ear lost during the war also smoking a cigar in X pose because you're a sad little man. You gotta pay for custom content. No big surprise. >> Anonymous 8jun2016(we)01:15 No.34171 K P27 >>34170 Last part wasn't referring to you, just in general for people who buy commissions and complain about pricing without realizing it could of taken hours to make a custom little fetish drawing so the buyer can wank himself to death. >> Anonymous 8jun2016(we)01:16 No.34172 L P28R24 the animation is like watching that piece of shit food fight movie >> Anonymous 8jun2016(we)01:20 No.34173 G P29R25 >>34170 Because the fetishes of the furries are so "specific" (inflation, waterplay, diapers, tiles, mexican sugar dancing, etc) that is the reason why many drawfags do not even take commission from them ergo the few who take those commisions do charge in such ridiculous prices. Whatsoever talking about merchandising products, there is none to blame when its fail but the one who did not study his/her target consumers. >> Anonymous 8jun2016(we)03:44 No.34176 F P30R26 >>34173 Most furries are rather vanilla, actually. And so, most drawfags DO take commissions from them.
