Any criticism is appreciated
Well, besides complaining about swfh264, that's unavoidable.

Looks great,
Music sounds muffled but but might be the age.

The audio is 5.1 channel HE-AAC.
I can't tell any difference from the source (FLAC), but it might cause problems when downmixing
to stereo.

I dont know how your source looks like, but i have this feeling that the denoise filter(s) used
are a tad bit too agressive.
less denoise and maybe a very light sharpening filter?

Looks pretty amazing to me. Of course, I watched most anime in 320x240 tiny ass streaming screens
back in 2008, so my standards are pretty rock bottom.

If I recall, that's actually what the artwork looks like.

The source is 1440p blu ray rip, its pretty much perfect.
Anything else was caused by me setting the most aggressive deblocking in the encoding, which
removes some detail and softens the lines a bit. Otherwise, the pixels become annoyingly visible
at this relatively low bitrate.

All raw sources have a certain amount of noise and artefacts that may or may not make certain
things look better. things like film grain are useful to preserve, and to an extent, give the
illusion of more detail, but is incredibly heavy on digital formats duie to the nature of digital
encodes.
imho, a slight amount of grain/noise and very relaxed/light sharppening filters are the way to go
for almost all animation out there.

The grain is already present in the source: https://ln.steamy.moe/tvwsqr.mkv
Though I will take your note for sharpening. LFSmod() should do the job for that.

I also remember some of my friends would have a ton of hentai with her in it. I never could've
gotten off on it.
I think sakura is the only loli that can't get my dick hard.

comparing it both, the dowscaling went pretty well. especially considering the bitrate et shite.
the sound quality seems fine, may sound dull and off for poeople simply because its much softer.
there's like 15 dB LESS gain on it compared to the mkb. no obvious artifacting either, DR seems
fine. idk

wouldn't it be actually better to have 720p as a raw material?
would definitely save a lot of space for higher bitrates
>> [_] Anonymous 06/16/16(Thu)20:29:10 No.3099800
>>3099787
OP Here:
Running it through a spatial-denoiser would accomplish a similar effect, while a better
pre-downscale in Avisynth (RGB downscale with linear light and spline36 or nnedi) would have a
positive but insignificant effect.
A denoiser would allow the encoder to better focus on details that can be easily preserved. As
far as I know, a lower resolution would have less of these details, but these details would not
have been removed, as much as they would have been scaled out, which would still retain artifacts
which could trip the encoder.

Its all good when your dealing with a minute and a half of video. things get a bit more
constrained when dealing with 3 and 4 minute videos. HD isn't always optimal.
btw how is the blueray source 1440p? There is no 4k edition of the series. -_-

1080p sorry.
The nice thing with cell animation is that the left over material is analog, so deriving larger
resolution and detail is possible even if it predates the existence of those capabilities.
