One popular-sci doomsday scenario is someone makes one that for whatever reason just makes more of itself, eating the entire world to create more tiny robots the so called "grey goo scenario". Probably a few hundred years too early to think about that sort of thing, but one can hope. >> [_] Anonymous 11/08/16(Tue)16:58:30 No.3173633 >>3173631 I think I heard of the idea from some science fiction series -- replicators right? >> [_] toasterz !!khb5JnmRAin 11/08/16(Tue)16:59:32 No.3173634 >>3173631 That'd be interesting >> [_] Anonymous 11/08/16(Tue)17:06:42 No.3173637 >>3173633 Yeah SG-1's were basically that, though the whole concept is more based on the older "Von Neumann Machine"/"Universal Assemblers" concept. It's actually kind of a common "robots are the bad guys" plot point in sci-fi. I think it's more because meatbags are scared of non-biotic life surpassing them more than because of real danger, but it's still fun to think about. >> [_] Anonymous 11/08/16(Tue)17:09:30 No.3173638 >>3173637 Ever hear of the stupid AI, whose only goal is to make more paperclips, and it kills everyone because it grabs up all of the resources? Since for the most part I think people are both aware of the dangers, and are yet to have the possibility of making such a capable and smart machine even with a global effort I think we'll probably manage to avoid such a fate. >> [_] Anonymous 11/08/16(Tue)17:15:58 No.3173642 I swear to god there was a kurzgesagt video on youtube about von neuman machines but I can't seem to find it >> [_] Anonymous 11/08/16(Tue)17:41:02 No.3173653 >>3173617 我已经在大学学中文,但是有点儿难。为了提升自己,我得到溫哥華旅行。 Already ahead of you >> [_] Anonymous 11/08/16(Tue)17:57:49 No.3173655 >>3173653 Nice! Never learned any romance languages, but I could often guess the gist of short sentences or signs and stuff using it. There's plenty of ancient literature that would be cool to read as well as possibly teaching a child (if I ever get one) Latin as one of his native tongues. Also you have the advantage of understanding any Latin that people use in fiction (usually used for magic incantations though). I haven't actually started learning it yet, but it's a goal for me. >> [_] Anonymous 11/08/16(Tue)18:22:12 No.3173668 >>3173663 You should just admit you are interested in the occult, or possibly fighting the occult, and that to fight something you must understand it.
