Not everything that has a message is propaganda.
Don't want to start a shitstorm I know a lot of liberals make the same mistake with rightist shit.

rage against the machine is pretty much made for edgy teen kids, so yes this is supposed to be
very fucking liberal, and therefore it's propaganda if not indoctrination of those ideas.

The song has nothing particularly misinformative and there is no real difference between
indoctrination and education other than what side you're on.
The most you can say is something like they're overplaying their hand or that they're using music
to substitute for argument, but both are somewhat tenious imo.
>so yes this is supposed to be very fucking liberal
That is completely irrelevant to whether or not it is propaganda. Most propaganda is in fact
centrist in nature for obvious reasons.

I think you have the wrong idea here.
>other than what side you're on.
This is the very idea of it. Society has shifted so much that this has become the norm.
>The song has nothing particularly misinformative
It's not about that, it's the message it conveys even if it doesn't want to convey it.
"Fuck you I won't do what they tell me" forms the basis of hating authority and denying it.

>"Fuck you I won't do what they tell me" forms the basis of hating authority and denying it.
Yes, it does clearly convey such a message, my point was that that isn't really criticism in and
of itself. Either you can say the argument itself is presented unethically (which is what I'd
call propaganda) or you can say the message is wrong, but so far you've done neither.
>Society has shifted so much that this has become the norm.
What has become the norm? Having sides? That was always the case. It's not like before the
current political polarization people weren't on sides, they were just either on the same side or
at least were more 'civil' about it. You can't have a position and not have something you're
advocating for. I wasn't suggesting there were only 2 positions to take or anything.

No, denying authority and music like this.

It doesn't have to be wrong or unethical to be propaganda. That's just what you think because in
your eyes the only propaganda which was explained to you to be propaganda was unethical in your
eyes because you had already taken up different norms and values.
People still aren't on "sides" Politics is a huge mess of differing opinions.

Is that just criticizing them for being cliche?
>That's just what you think because in your eyes the only propaganda which was explained to you

That's just what I was using as an aspect of the definition of propaganda. If it isn't unethical
than what are you criticizing by calling it propaganda?
>People still aren't on "sides" Politics is a huge mess of differing opinions.
You misunderstand me semantically, I used 'sides' in a way that does not contradict this.
