Just basic pseudo: stat_increment(statName,howMuch){ statName += howMuch show_alert ( "Learned! \n+" +howmuch+stateName+"!" ) } Could return that function to the statName variable in question, if you don't want to make external references to variables. (objectively better for memory and CPU reasons) I can't understand why they would do each stat separately. Not even for testing. The first thing I did when making a stat-driven game was make a function to handle every stat from the beginning. Both adding and removing stats. And it probably would work, since the basis of that code was a JavaScript game, which Actionscript shares many similarities with since they are based on the same spec. I made the pseudo as common as possible to most languages to keep it simple. It'd only need a few minor changes to work with AS syntax. (and JavaScript as well, which I originally wrote said game in) The original code was just that. But equally another form was an object container for a character, then methods for changing the stats. So a Person class You can re-use the same code in the class definition, but make it reference the actual object variables instead. (then just pass the same statName and howMuch to the method handler inside the Person instance.) Object form was much nicer since it was self-contained and easier to see what is happening.
