In Western religion we like our gods to be relatable whether they are heroes, martyrs, fathers, ancestors, wise women, etc. In Eastern Religion there is a common theme of worshiping these extremely alien entities and it just creeps me out.

Well yes, in Chinese mythology, dragons are believed to be the ancestors of all life. The people of China refer to themselves as "descendants of the Dragon" for this reason.
