In Hindu myth, hands were a symbol of power. This is why gods had so many hands. The more hands
you have, the more things you can do, the more powerful you are.

OP are you implying that this flash is also creepy? Because all I'm experiencing is serenity.

Yeah, Hindu gods scare the shit out of me. Same with Chinese dragons.

I don't really understand, is there any particular reasoning behind that?

  >Same with Chinese dragons.

That's oddly specific. What about the other chinese gods which weren't dragons?

It's the anthropomorphism that gets to me. Scary traits are seen as powerful so they make them
look extremely scary even if they are "benevolent".

In Western religion we like our gods to be relatable whether they are heroes, martyrs, fathers,
  ancestors, wise women, etc.

In Eastern Religion there is a common theme of worshiping these extremely alien entities and it
  just creeps me out.

Well hold on now. A lot of gods in eastern religion just resemble normal humans as well.

A few, sure, but the most powerful gods are depicted as having many arms and heads, sharp teeth
and long tongues, elephantine features, blue skin, red skin, serpents coiled around their necks
or splayed out behind their head, etc.

In our heritage we immediately associate these traits as being monstrous and something that a
more human person would slay to earn the gods favor.

Chinese gods are much more human, but in a few cases Dragons and the likes are seen as powerful
  guardians of the gods.

I guess it's similar to the way we view gargoyles.

...Those descriptors you just gave appear to be specifically characteristic of Hindu mythology
and not any other Eastern mythology that I'm aware of. That said, it's 100% just for symbolic
purposes, as with most mythological things, so it's not really that strange IMHO.

  >In our heritage we immediately associate these traits as being monstrous and something that a

Well, it's also worth mentioning that in Hindu mythology, gods weren't the only ones who could
have such qualities as having multiple arms and heads, there were also demons who could possess
  the same features.

  >Chinese gods are much more human, but in a few cases Dragons and the likes are seen as powerful

Well yes, in Chinese mythology, dragons are believed to be the ancestors of all life. The people
of China refer to themselves as "descendants of the Dragon" for this reason.

Have you ever looked up what people say the different choirs of angels look like? Specifically
Thrones and Cherubs (no it's not a cute flying baby).
