I feel like I was invited to watch a trauma patient squirm in one of her therapy sessions for an hour.

Machi is an unconfident shrinking violet who aspires to this wonderfully naive goal that's so realistic (being accepted as just a normal city girl) and yet is assaulted with physical/sexual harassment and berating by her peers (you know, the people who are supposed to be supporting her), exploitation by Yoshio and Kuma. The people around her at times force her into situations she doesn't even want to be in, and then make light of her emotional/mental suffering that she incurs in the process. And at the end of the day, she has nothing to show for it other than another notch in the trauma belt she'll take to her therapist some day. These are two different characters with two different sets of circumstances. I stopped watching Watamote because I was getting bored with Status Quo Is God being the rule. I forced myself, kicking and screaming, to watch Kuma Miko in the hopes that all the misery to befall this 14-year-old girl would amount to something of substance, that there was some purpose to it. In the end, I was not only disappointed, I was disgusted by everything I'd watched.
