Are you a lab technician? what was the reaction you were attempting? I'm assuming if the pipette was the problem then it must have been something with proximity like splashing. I guess you can always go extra with the gloves or use that tool with the corc seal and the glass tube that I don't remember the name of. TLDR if you don't mind please share more details. >> [_] Anonymous 02/27/20(Thu)18:43:26 No.3419620 >>3419617 >be me, pharmacology student >working the labs making drugs n shit >today we're making anti cholera drugs (virstatin) >as part of the procedure, we need to dilute some acid that will be used in the reaction >everything's going fine >jinxed it >someone yells from the back of the room >lab assistants run over to see what happened >someone pipetted water into acid, causing the acid to boil and some fell on him >he's fine thanks to our safety precautions Anyways, it goes to show that all safety protocols outlined in the handbook should be read beforehand, even the if it's most minor shit. >> [_] Anonymous 02/27/20(Thu)18:50:25 No.3419621 >>3419583 preach >> [_] Anonymous 02/27/20(Thu)19:50:00 No.3419630 Learned that I suck at having sex. Either come too fast or cant get properly hard. Sucks to have your first time at 27. That lowered my confidence to the point where I didn't even want to have sex with the girl anymore and grew distant. Needless to say she left me. Guess I need practice. >> [_] Anonymous 02/27/20(Thu)20:02:13 No.3419632 I learned the difference between IPv4 and IPv6 addresses the other day. IPv4 is written with 4 numbers ranging between 0 and 255 separated by decimals, so they can range from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255 iirc. IPv6 came later to make room for more addresses. They use hexadecimal code and are separated by colons. The hexadecimal numbers are 4-character combinations of the numbers 0-9 and letters a-f, rather than simply the numbers 0-255. I was taught this by a friend out of the and just found it interesting, though I probably was off on some details. >> [_] Anonymous 02/27/20(Thu)21:52:48 No.3419639 >>3419630 You must get off on being pathetic too. >> [_] Anonymous 02/27/20(Thu)23:19:54 No.3419643 I'm learning how to play the accordion. I'm not good yet. >>3419630 Sex is like literally everything else in the world: in order to do it well you have to practice. I couldn't keep an erection until the 6th time I had sex because I was too nervous. But I kept at it and now I'm decent at it. >> [_] Anonymous 02/27/20(Thu)23:35:22 No.3419645 >>3419643 not that anon but thank you, there is a lot of mysticism and neurose over sex and seeing an anon tell his experience is a good thing, thank you based anon. >> [_] Anonymous 02/28/20(Fri)00:10:50 No.3419651 >>3419645 Hey man, for sure. The hard part about sex is that so many people have it when they're all bad at it, so having it for the first time later in life is super spooky. But, like, it's fine and normal to be awkward the first time. The first time I got a blowjob my girlfriend almost dumped me because I was too pushy and she thought I was an asshole and not just nervous. The first time I was going to have sex I got way too nervous and lost my erection and it didn't come back for hours. Then there was the aformentioned "losing my erection after 30 second because of nerves" part. But I just talked to my girlfriend about it and she only teased me a little bit. The other things that no one tells you about sex is that 1) a lot of stuff doesn't feel great, but is super erotic. Like tittyfucking or hotdogging, even with lube isn't gonna make you cum. But when you do cum, you will cum harder because of it. And 2) sex is a lot of physical work. Like it seems easy, but if you can't run a mile then you're gonna suck at sex because it's like doing a ton of squats over and over for minutes. So do some cardio and build stamina. >> [_] Anonymous 02/28/20(Fri)01:03:53 No.3419654 you know those automated robot car assembly lines? learned how to wire and program that. >> [_] Anonymous 02/28/20(Fri)01:20:17 No.3419656 This month... I learned I'm a sucker for staying in a dead-end job because I have comfort-syndrome. I hate my boss and we fight almost every day, and I'm unwilling to move on. >> [_] Anonymous 02/28/20(Fri)03:30:12 No.3419664 >>3419617 in general when diluting, water should be the first component, into which the others get added. akaline comes next, whereas acids come last. while you add these components heat can build up on the surface, forcing low boiling liquids or small amounts of normal liquid which cannont accommondate the free energy to evaporate rapidly, causing local steam explosions. as an added bonus, mixing the liquids can shift the boiling point. + if the stuff explodes, you rather want a solution with less stuff that melts your face in, well, your face. >> [_] Anonymous 02/28/20(Fri)03:33:40 No.3419665 >>3419620 Ah I see. So a closed off tool would be better for the job, right? maybe something that'll drip it instead of all at once to not cause it to get out of hand. What's the usual procedure for this? >> [_] ta-kun 02/28/20(Fri)03:37:03 No.3419666 >>3419630 notawizard.png Don't worry, bro, You'll get the hang of it >> [_] Anonymous 02/28/20(Fri)03:45:09 No.3419667 >>3419665 dont know about how they have to do it, but at our lab we usually have to either monitor the heat and gradually add the acid, or we regulate by volume over time. usually only droplets or small defined volumes get added via pipette or burette, but this always depends on the concentration of the used reagents. depending on the hazard we even may have to use shields, in addition to the other safety equipment like visors, goggles, gloves etc. >> [_] ta-kun 02/28/20(Fri)03:48:49 No.3419668 >>3419632 I didn't know that, thanks >>3419632 That's a very cool instrument.
