[_] Ruffle sucks. Anonymous 02/06/21(Sat)22:35:49 No.3459657

When is /f/ getting an option to have both the flash embed and Ruffle button (like the 4plebs
  archives?)
Some people would like to see flashes at the correct size, and most of them want to be able to
play ALL flashes, not a select few.

Already have an older version of flash installed since I never updated.
Everything since the 12th was working fine. The 'death' of flash went and by, nothing changed for
the ones who actually care. But I guess mods want to cater to people who don't even browse the
  board.

How can I make Firefox 71 download swfs when I open them in new tab instead trying to play them?
I'm talking about the "What should Firefox to do with this file?" prompt like when you open a
  .zip.
Already tried turning off the plugin and setting SWFs on "Files and Applications" in the configs
to Always Ask, Save File and open with the projector but it changed nothing. v85 does this but it
  also drops plugin support.

I browse but for some reason I still can't figure out how to make it work since I'm tech
illiterate. at this point I just save the flash and run it in the player

I switched to palemoon and when I watch flashes in a new tab it has this 10px wide white border
  around the flash

true, using embed is for plebs only, but there is no valid reason not to have an option to do so
  at least

Interesting, I'm testing in Basilisk (same dev as Pale Moon) and it also has that. Seems like
they are generating a web page with an embed of the flash when viewing it in a new tab. Can't
"View Page Source" but if you right-click the border you can "Inspect Element" and see the code:

  [html][head][meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; height=device-height;
  "][/head][body marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"][embed name="plugin" src="https://i.4cdn.o
  rg/f/Everyone%20Is%20Doing%20Their%20Best.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="100%"
  height="100%"][/body][/html]

Replaced the tags to go through 4chan's spam filter. Looks like he is trying to hide the border
but marginwidth/marginheight doesn't cut it. Pressing CTRL+S saves the swf file and not the html
so the browser doesn't treat it exactly the same as a real html page.

Use Waterfox or Palemoon. Chromium browsers block flash regardless of the version installed.

>> [_] Anonymous 02/07/21(Sun)16:41:26 No.3459706

  >>3459705
alright then, I already have palemoon installed so it's good to know chromium blocks it regardless

Do you mean in new tab ? In that case yes, but otherwise /f/ was working fine for me like it
always did till mods force ruffle as the only option.

  1. Download standalone flash player https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/debug_downloads.html
  2. Associate swf files with it
  3. Download swf and double-click

if you really want to help you could work on making a good javascript api to pull data out of the
swf or change the playback state (access to gotoandplay etc)

  >>3459726
you can just "open with" the flash instead of selecting "save file". then it downloads to %temp%
and automatically opens, saves some effort and useful if you want to watch multiple flashes

  >>3459662
The programmers have to "cater" to the majority which means keeping up with how browsers develop.
Eventually they are forced to stop supporting old browsers because of vulnerabilities, difficulty
to maintain legacy features or something similar. Also FOSS Flash support is the future, just
might be a somewhat distant one. This is a transitory period, nothing they can do about it really.

Literally open the swf in a new tab if you are a minority among minorities and use some retarded

Delusional specila snowflake. Only the worst of autists use modified browsers to browse /f/.

If anything, Ruffle could promote actual flashes and not just stupid overly compressed videos.

It's getting better with every commit anyway. By the end of the year it'll likely play everything
flawlessly. Unfortunetaly it'll also mean it'll play stupid videos too so /f/ will go back to
being a stale pile of daily reposted shit. But at least the low iq apezs like you will be happy I
  guess.
