[_] The state of 4chan. Anonymous 04/01/21(Thu)16:38:58 No.3462838

I don't know why i'm writing this, but i feel like i need to vent a bit after checking what's
going on with the other boards on 4chan. I am seeing a lot of disinformation propagated how 4chan
"hasn't changed" and that it "has always been like this". For those who are new, this isn't the
case. I know, because i have been visiting this site since 2004. Don't get me wrong. 4chan has
always been the site of weirdos and degeneracy, but there weren't groups of politically motivated
people constantly forcing their opinions onto others. Back in the day, people did stupid shit
because it was fun, and not for some political ideology.

I think the shift started happening some time after 2010, when tumblr politics begun appearing
the first time. And after that the shit started amping up until we reached 2016 elections. I
think the change was also affected by the fact that the users aren't same type people anymore.
The early 2000 nerd culture is long gone, and every site is infested with kids and real social
  media schizos.

This applies to almost everything still thriving online today that was created around the mid
2000s. It isn't the same authentic community or sphere you once knew it as. That said I'm not a
weeb so I know I wouldn't have liked this place in '04 despite only being 8 years old.

I'd say that western society in general has become more politicized. You can't order a sandwich
at a chicken shop without making it a "political statement" now.

I think a lot of the change in 4chan's community and culture is because of new users (I've even
seen actual baby boomers posting on this site) coming from places like /r/the_donald and
facebook, but at least some of it is oldfags who are becoming more politicized, swept up in the
  flood.

I feel the same way and have also been coming here 2005, but we're just relics of the past man.
If you try and bring this up on any of the popular boards everyone just screams at you saying
that you're wrong. There's no point in trying anymore, the site is too far gone. The fact that
/pol/ is the most popular board just goes to show that we've been dead for a long, long time.

>> [_] Anonymous 04/02/21(Fri)19:38:20 No.3462903

Most people outgrow old popular boards or move on from 4Chan at some point.
Started in olden days circa 2004 /f/ /b/ being the ones that interested me the most ocasionaly
/tg/ for almost a decade now i visit mostly wsr and f for nostalgia sake. Thing is you can find
disturbing/weird geek/nerd stuff almost anywhere now. Over the years community changed and that
is to be expected. For somebody who grew up in 90 ties like rest of oldfags who still frequent
this site i have more in common with fathers of newfags so it is to be expected we have different
interests. Core concept did not change you still get people here that are disgruntled with the
state of the world on some boards and it is to be expected since everyone is offended by anything
these days. You still get people who want to watch stupid shit but in lesser numbers since ti
spread over multiple sites where you can talk about same shit you could scarcely found or talk
  about in 05.

they just want (you)s and that is the number 1 thing that make you respond. Nothing hits you like
fame and what better way to get it is from faceless posts that you both have no agency to and
will always come running like a dog?

>> [_] Anonymous 04/02/21(Fri)23:34:45 No.3462915

i think people just value the anonymity which no other big site/service allows. after the big
influx of new users in 2016 and then later on when 4ch content started getting popular on
youtube, many people just see this as a place to share their opinions with no repercussions and
to see what others think. many people still think this is some underground hidden site despite
the fact its a well known site. kids come on here to try and act edgy as many kids did back in
the early days, its just now that all other sites are shit this is the only place where people
can actually give there retarded opinions hence all the pol threads, tranny shit, race baits and
trolls. i just sage and move on honestly, kids will get bored and eventually the site will evolve
although r9k and b are probably lost causes at this point. maybe one day we'll look back on the
pol threads and wojak posting and remember it fondly.

The issue is 4chan consists of people and people have political opinions, it has just become more
prevalent in later years because the left relies on low information voters so they have made good
effort in pushing more people into politics. The user base of the site has also grown. Both of
these things increases the chance of someone bringing up something political, which creates a
political discussion and then drags other people into it.

It can't be helped without censorship and that's not what 4chan is all about. Just stating that
/pol/ is supposed to be a containment board is also false logic, since people are more complex
than that. Just like people will sometimes bring up vidya on unrelated boards people will
sometimes bring up politics on unrelated boards, because they are humans with complex thoughts.

There's always been politics going on anyway, just on a lesser scale because politics wasn't
pushed as much into mainstream and few people were online pre 2010. We had the whole
insurgents/invasion thing going on on /b/ before that became banned. Anonymous vs Scientology.
People laughing at dickgirls/furries/otherkin. Spamming nazi talkshows. Sure there was a lot more
done just for the lulz but there were still politics involved, but much less noticeable without
so many users and without politics being mainstream.

Yes, 4chan has changed a whole lot. "Some time after 2010" is right, personally I draw a thick
line 2011. That's when I noticed that EVERYBODY were online for more than just e-mail and that's
when I noticed that all TV stations always made sure to mention their website in news broadcasts
etc. 2011 it was basically assumed that everybody in the west were online for more than work.

  /b/ was always shit
seriously though, what you say is nothing new
ever since 2007 lay the groundwork for a generation of wanna be big bong theory nerds exclusively
using smartphones to browse, the rise and invasion of people genuinly having nothing else in
their life but this place between reality has long started

it's like a mixture of overtaking by people who either don't understand or rather are averse to
the fact the internet doesn't necessarily feature and be bound by the same limitations that rule
  modern day real life

people started to get invested in online arguments
it used to be a joke about srs bzns in intrawebs, but it became real
people started to believe there was actually something to gain from honestly trying to convince
another person on the net about your super serious superior opinions, in a neverending quest to
make the world a better place

2016 even your goverment worker grandma discovered that memes hold an enourmous untapped power
potential to sway peoples minds and opinions which obviously gets exploited to the point of
basically people learning from textbook education about memes and chan culture what we lived and
discovered naturally through our passion, so that they can most effectively exploit that to some
  company's financial benefit

anonymous surrounded himself with idiots acting ironically like idiots, neglecting the fact that
people are to stupid to learn on their own that it wasn't supposed to be genuine idiocrazy, so
all that was left were a bunch of idiots acting like idiots, forever

/f/ is living proof that as long as the amount of oldfags teaching newfags is in an acceptable
border, newfags will adapt and the predominant culture survive through the decades
and also that a healthy amount of gatekeeping only protects that fact
flash is like a natural repellant to phoneposting

  t. lurker on /f/ since 2006, active poster since 2010

It started back in 2007, there just weren't enough people on the internet for it to be a problem
  until everyone had a smartphone.
