It's getting worse every year.

Corporate influence over the Internet was still relatively small scaled and the tools for
creativity were getting bretty good.

Yep, I noticed the downfall with Vista onward.
Win7 was acceptable if in need of a hefty dose of modding to make it right, but it was possible.
Win10 on the other hand, you have to ameloriate so much it's basically its own OS by then.
On a win10 work PC they even routinely break my registry enabled usage of the regular windows
image viewer dll with every other update.

>golden era of computers
Kind of a vague term desu.
If you mean that time when the internet was still a fun thing and not a tool to enforce DRM, SaaS
and whatnot, then it has to be before the 2000s.
However, computers are getting more and more powerful by every passing day, but quantum computing
is not practical yet. It's already a golden age, it's just not realized very well because
software is not written like it was a few decades ago.

Some parts do improve, do not be mistaken.
I'd say windows 10 is definitely more robust, even for my own usage. And maybe looks a bit more
stylish in some regards.
It's just that, a PC is a tool. It should do what you want it to do and the focus should be on
being able to serve every and anyone.
But I did very much notice that as time went on, it became harder and harder to exert exact
control overy this and that. A setting to turn off that annoying bloatware feature? Nope, gotta
fiddle around in the registry if you're lucky.
An option to put the clock back on the very right of the taskbar? Pfft, gotta rely on 3rd party
software for that.
And that's just the surface, I didn't even start with more citical processes or not making
windows 10 "updating" and destroy all your config or remove flash player indefinitely or report a
screenshot of your screen every other minute to microjews.
Did they ever perfect that windows 10 "gaming center" aka shutting down all your pirated
videogames?
In short: you don't own your OS any longer, not even your BIOS.
Microsoft still does and they can do with your PC whatever they want, like mandatory online only
microsoft accounts with no local admin account anymore.

It's crazy that we have insanely powerful hardware but software runs slower and slower. I hate
this era of software development where they use 10 different frameworks and 100s of libraries. It
creates bad coders and just slows shit down.

i just played muse dash, a game that is as simple as games 20 years ago, yet i experienced a huge
stutter, had some random input delays and a regularly occurring bug where resolution setting
changes on its own.
like what a fucking nightmare
and to think theres many millions of people working on software and use unpolished garbage to
make another unpolished garbage and upkeep the gears of never ending circle of garbage making
this is exactly what i call "meat obstacle". when a problematic social/economic system is
supported by massive amounts of people and it will be there until you do something about those
mindless drones
