The only problem with that is the ending, where he watches "himself" jump off the office building. It could be someone else however. It's ambiguous. To progress in the game, you must "change" the daily routine to include novelty. I still think the "dream" is death however, as the bum takes you to a grave yard. Another game progression element is killing yourself (jumping from the building). Watching the leaf fall is a metaphor for death, as the leaf ceases to be part of the photosynthesis process of the tree, and "dies" when it is shed. Going in naked and getting fired is akin to dying. Petting the cow however is the only thing not reminiscent of death. That's 4/5 game progression elements directly related to death. I'm sure we can come up with a death image for the petting of the cow. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)02:33 No.1365090 in some religions, people believe that when you die, you reincarnate into a cow >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)02:33 No.1365091 Well he doesn't so much pet the cow as touch it for a period of time, which is more akin to saying goodbye to something than just idly messing around with it, and the cow doesn't appear again after you touch it, so it could be that the cow is dying or the main character is saying good bye to life before going off to die. >> [_] Secret Zyzz Meme Master !!vvmiSMKPTj9 09/05/10(Sun)02:36 No.1365095 >>1365090 >>1365091 I think you could interpret it either way. The coup de grat is the last sequence, when everyone has vanished. I believe at this "point" you are dead. You watch yourself jump to your death, and then you are finally "free." Curtain fall. The end. I think it is a sad game, and it could have ended a little different towards a lighter side, but whatever. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)02:38 No.1365097 honestly, i dont need this shit right before i get a desk job. twice as depressed about it now. >> [_] Secret Zyzz Meme Master !!vvmiSMKPTj9 09/05/10(Sun)02:40 No.1365098 >>1365097 This, the concept not the game, is why I'm taking a break from uni to try and figure things out. The suggestion usually is that this part is so obviously boring and pointless that the author doesn't even need to show it. Well no shit, Sherlock, if you're spending eight hours a day doing something tedious then of course you're going to hate life! Lesson learned: if your job sucks, find a different job. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)04:48 No.1365162 >>1365130 Yes because the millions of tedious jobs don't need doing, and there are billions of easy to get jobs doing what each of us individually loves. Capitalism is a joke, an illusion of a lottery, the American dream is a sham to get people to willingly enslave themselves so the rich can go to the country club. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)04:53 No.1365166 I'm jealous. i've always wanted to kill my self this way, but now, I kind of don't. If you die in your own dream, it represents an upcoming drastic change, and watching someone you know die represents acquisition to a major quality that they had. Cows represent future prosperity and goals, and saying goodbye means you've come to peace that you will not achieve your goals or dreams. To see someone homeless in your dream represents a disconnection to your own world or relationships in life, and viewing a graveyard represents self-reflection and the memories you have made. >> [_] Mr. Fedora 09/05/10(Sun)05:02 No.1365173 A dead leaf represents old age or a foretelling of change, but catching a dead leaf in the wind is a symbol to accepting what is to come. Being naked represents vulnerability, and being told to dress yourself means that others want you to put up a stronger visage. Finally, being the only person in your dream where there should be others, represents loneliness and isolation from everyone you know. >> [_] Mr. Fedora 09/05/10(Sun)05:02 No.1365174 That, and if you noticed the chart in the back, it represents the general self-esteem of the character you play as, and it slowly decreases as you continue on, showing that your self-esteem is dying until you watch yourself/someone else commit suicide. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)05:05 No.1365175 >>1365174 thats deep man >> [_] Mr. Fedora 09/05/10(Sun)05:30 No.1365180 >>1365175 Deep as you can get. Might I add, the average person cannot see anything on a TV when they are dreaming, or even manage to read anything in their sleep. That, and illumination tends to stay the same, with the lights unable to be controlled. All signs towards a dream, or someone who didn't feel like changing illumination in the midst of a flash. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)07:02 No.1365213 so we should all kill ourselves to avoid capitolism >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)07:37 No.1365235 >>1365162 It rewards people intelligent enough to make something of themselves. Don't want a horrible dead end job? Don't be an idiot. >> [_] Mr. Fedora 09/05/10(Sun)07:51 No.1365245 >>1365235 Capitalism also enjoys keeping those who are rich rich, and siphon out money from those who need it more. There are plenty of people who could manage to make a living, but there are just as many who cannot even manage time to dream for such. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)09:56 No.1365288 Anyone else turn off the TV and alarm clock? >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)10:01 No.1365291 Death doesn't automatically remove everyone. They disappear once you've done 5 things different. The lady in the elevator tells you how many more 'steps' you have to take before you become a new person. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)10:36 No.1365302 yeah I'm all alone Now !!! >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)11:04 No.1365315 >>1365235 Not everyone who isn't an idiot can. Capitalism is a pyramid scheme. Only a small percentage of people can be near the top, and those are most definitely not the "smartest, most skilled" people. They are the greediest most manipulative people. Sorry if I don't care for a system that promotes those negative traits at the expense of everyone else. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)11:24 No.1365324 >>1365315 We aren't a capitalist society; if we were we'd have control over our own money supply instead of the Federal Reserve M2 being 53 trillion; that's over 52 trillion in banknotes masquerading as actual capital. The actual M0 is 823 Billion in actual cash and hasn't changed since the 60's. When the people are in control of their money, that's capitalism. When they are not, it's an oligarchy. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)11:33 No.1365327 200 years ago you would run your farm and feed yourself. That was it. That was your life for 70% of the people. Now you can work in exchange for cash, and go out with friends drinking, browse the internet, travel overseas, and play video games. Seriously you are all a bunch of ungrateful fucks. Money was always in-equally distributed. But for the majority of people, life has never been better than it has now. >> [_] Anonymous 09/05/10(Sun)12:42 No.1365351 so i picked the leaf, pet the cow, gone to work naked. now what? |
