OP here, I'mma start a new Enlarge Muscles hobbit rogue female. My theory is, at level 8 and up,
she'll be even stronger than a wizard because high level wizards waste a lot of time casting stat
down spells and heals.
New theory:
Levels 1-5: heavy hitters = strongest
Levels 5-8 or maybe 9: wizards = strongest
Levels 9 and up: rogues and archaeologists = strongest
>> [_] Anonymous 09/09/10(Thu)16:05 No.1368705
>>1368699
I also had suspicions that rogues and archaeologists were better.
That said, my Gnome Archaeologist started off with Fireball! This is going to be a good run.
>> [_] Anonymous 09/09/10(Thu)16:11 No.1368707
>>1368705
It's really pretty non-obvious. Compared to a magic user with a high level in concentration, a
rogue will probably always deal less damage. My level 12 high elf necro does something like 900
damage / fireball with concentration level 400-something and fireball level 40-something. I've
never seen a rogue do any damage comparable to a fireball at any level. However, he keeps taking
so many hits in battle it's taking him time to heal, and he also occasionally dies because you
simply can't one-shot the thousands-of-hp monsters in the last areas and he's a wimp. A high
level rogue OTOH can dodge almost anything.
I'll race your archeologist. My rogue is now level 3 and 900 exp.
>> [_] Anonymous 09/09/10(Thu)16:16 No.1368708
Oh yeah, I forgot: I think Enlarge Muscles is the best spell for rogue. Fireball will make you
stronger initially; however, eventually it won't be stronger than your attack because
rogue/archaeologist spells don't get upgrades from spellbooks but from levels only, so you'll
probably only get like fireball level 15 (arch) or 10 (rogue) by level 7 or so, best case. Dex is
on the other hand constantly upgraded by equipment improvements, so the % increase from quicken
to total attack damage would be less than from muscles.

AFAIK, enhancement spells like Quicken are "permanent", meaning they're always on, without any
casting required.
My pally started with Quicken 1, and always had a +1 notation next to her Dex. When it leveled up
to Quicken 2, the notation changed to +2. So if your cowboy's got a + next to his Dex, that's
what it is.

The most viable half-orc class is probably Ranger/Rogue so they get moar dex but you'd be better

Yeah, we've been over this earlier; when you level up all of the bonus HP from your mount is

Basically at every level up your mount dies but it doesn't tell you so.
The worst part is you can have, for example, an armored donkey when you level up, but then it
dies and your character will consider ANY mount an upgrade, meaning you can 'upgrade' an armored

So basically yes, spells just randomly pop up.
>> [_] friendsofsandwiches 09/09/10(Thu)21:31 No.1369080
Unfortunately, yes. Spells are pretty much random. That being said, I have to agree poison is the
shiznit.
Made a half elf cowgirl, first time around, got fireball. She was dying every other big monster.
When I restarted it on a local window, I got poison. Friggin wins 98% of all fights right from
the get go as long as she could keep the health up.
About level 5 which she hit a little bit ago, she got regeneration.
Not seen her loose a fight yet now except for some big elementals.
okay, scratch that, she got whacked by a gila monster, but it was a drag out session.
I notice heath goes up depending on the mount you get, and the weapons and armor as well. I'm not
sure, I think it buys it depending on the power for weapon, and defense of the armor, and doesn't
take into account any other mods the item might have.
Kinda wish there was an option to do some micro managing here.

That's natural progression for a bard. The CHA will help you get better equipment than other
characters as is documented in this thread. If you want raw direct attack power tho, should maybe
have gone for a wizard although a bard may be more powerful once he has enough CHA to get
equipment for practically nothing (the class abilities really start soaring around level 10,
you'll go from like 50 charisma to like 300 between 10 and 11)
