As I stated when this was previously posted and someone else did too, Katanas break easily.
Without proper usage, Katanas on average will break in about 2-5 hits when swung on something
hard, they are meant to cut through skin, never bone. So most weeaboos who would like to use a
Katana in a melee fight will surely lose. =P

>> [_] Anonymous 06/04/11(Sat)17:05 No.1519230

^That, and they were probably complete shit to begin with being "practice" katanas.

Wow, you must either be American or a complete idiot.

Firstly, the guy showcasing the "sword" is exaggerating.
I can't imagine a dull decoration item can cause such a big wound, especially since it didn't hit
  him at a significant speed.

Secondly, duh.... where to start...? You obviously don't have the slightest understanding of the
art of sword making. These shitty abominations you see are no swords! A real sword from a
Japanese master is folded at least 12 times and basically is the best sword that humans could
possibly manufacture. They are so dense, hard and FUCKING SHARP you can cut through anything your
own muscle power can handle. Just saying if the guy had a REAL Katana, the blade would have stuck
in the table at the first strike, even with his whimpy arms.

  tl;dr: You're a retard.

  >>1519233
No, you're following shitty anime logic that the Katana is the greatest sword in the world, it's
not. Unlike most European made swords, Katanas are made for their sharpness, not their
durability. Without proper handling, a Katana can break easily, try to do more research or ask
  /k/.

>> [_] Anonymous 06/04/11(Sat)17:36 No.1519243

I heard that they tested the best swords by actually banging them against large rocks. Was that a
lie as well? I mean, if it would break easily they'd just ruin them.

  Whatever faggots.
You prove to be an ignorant self righteous fuck. So I believe my initial assumption of you being
  Americunt was right.

Just a hint: Just because a swords blade is wider, doesn't mean it's more durable.
Like I said, you don't have the slightest idea of how to forge a blade.

>> [_] Anonymous 06/04/11(Sat)18:03 No.1519261

Someone here didn't even pay attention to the video.

First off, yes. The swords are pieces of shit. I got a better set of blades that looked like
those in Chinatown in San Francisco. These blades are terrible quality compared to a blade that
is more traditional or forged for special occasions. However, even traditional blades are not the
best in terms of durability. Normally a blade would have been used by someone trained in the art
of using it so they would attack for a vital point. You never attacked anything hard. You would
avoid armor to save the blade.

Your stupid ass tries to make it seem like they are more durable than a European sword, no matter
what kind it is. This is where faggotry becomes so very obvious. Quite simply, they aren't.

  >>1519225
This guy knows his shit. Weeaboos would attack and think nothing of "vital points." In a zombie
invasion, they'd start slicing away and get fucked when it brakes after several zombies.

"The authentic Japanese sword is made from a specialized Japanese steel called 'Tamahagane' which
consist of combinations of hard, high carbon steel and tough, low carbon steel. There are
benefits and limitations to each type of steel. High-carbon steel is harder and able to hold a
sharper edge than low-carbon steel but it is more brittle and may break in combat. Having a small
amount of carbon will allow the steel to be more malleable, making it able to absorb impacts
without breaking but becoming blunt in the process. The makers of a katana take advantage of the
best attributes of both kinds of steel. This is accomplished through a number of methods, most
commonly by making a U-shaped piece of high-carbon steel (the outer edge) and placing a billet of
low-carbon steel (the core) inside the U, then heating and hammering them into a single piece.
Some sword-makers use four different pieces (a core, an edge, and two side pieces), and some even
  use as many as five."

>> [_] Anonymous 06/04/11(Sat)20:38 No.1519303

Before I state my opinion, based on physics, metallurgy and common sense, let me make an analogy.

There is a difference between hard brittle.

A diamond is the hardest substance on the hardness scale – it can stratch anything else. However,
scratching – the hardness test – is a shearing motion rather than a lateral striking motion.

If you take a common brick – you know, like to build a house and smash it down on a diamond, the
diamond can shatter. This is because the brittle test is about lateral striking – the brick can
and does win even though the diamond is harder and would thus scratch the brick.

>> [_] Anonymous 06/04/11(Sat)20:38 No.1519304

all this because some dumbass broke a practice sword.

  >>1519303
That said, a katana, when talking about the equivalent ‘hardness’ won’t go through anything.
Other metals may not break the katana, but they would certainly halt it being able to cut –
feudal japanese armor, against common wisdom had metal bands and plates in it – it wasn’t all
  bamboo.

Also, resisteing the cutting motion of a blade is different from twisting or paralel striking to
the cutting motion of a blade. The katana was very tough when it comes to durability as far as
motion against the cutting direction of the blade. However, a jitte could easily snap a blade
when used paralel to the length of the blade – in that direction the blade is brittle.

If a sword were to cut into a tree, it would not break, but if you start moving the blade from
side to side, the blade would snap. Either way, the tree would not be cut through – the blade is
like the brick. It can’t ‘scratch’ the katana blade, but it can ‘shatter’ the katana blade.

lol, he just saw that one GUIED TO SOWRDS!!1!! image and now thinks he's an expert.

The katana was a very good sword *for the setting of feudal Japan* and the best that they could
make with their mostly crappy iron. Much like Europe though battles were mostly fought with
spears, various halberd type things and archers.
