I've only recently played some of the games that are supposedly nostalgic (including Earthbound)
and I was overcome with nostalgia despite never having played them. The feeling was exactly the
same as looking back on a game I loved as a kid. Basically it's that certain games just resonate
with you and those games cause that nostalgic feeling. Although, no games made after 2005 seem to
have this quality.

They have made some Flash episodes/games to look and sound like EarthBound. They have a talented
music fan community which has also made HomeStuck/EarthBound theme mashups. There is even an
entire album devoted to these tracks: "AlterniaBound".
