So, I'm, like, incredibly proud of myself for pulling this—my second real—Flash off in just nine
days (if it does indeed play correctly here lol).
I never looked up any "how to sim 3D" tutorials or anything like that either—This is all me, and
it feels so SWEET to have an idea, to slowly implement it into existence, and then to continually
add bells and whistles onto its chassie until the chassie's barely visible and keyboard's almost
out of assignable buttons (40?! Plus mouse/click/scroll?!)
Even if all this really amounts to is just a neat little widget-/ambience-type-thing, it's, like,
kinda sorta my first "[G]ame" or something, so, yeah :)
I used to spend a lot of time meditatively drawing 2D-ish shapes like these in
Processing/java—screensaver-type stuff—and two weeks ago I hopped back in and drew some
concentric pentagons, then I made them follow the mouse, then I tried to make the larger
pentagons lag behind the smaller ones... and that's basically how this all started.
That prototype I made in Processing was SUPER bare-bones compared to what I was able to achieve
here using Actionscript. Extremely glad I'm getting more comfortable with the language (the code
for my last Flash was legit storm-tossed compared to this one, trust me).
Below, I'm going to eventually share the code (plus the music) I wrote, but just a few more words
here on the ActionScript for those interested:
What you're looking at is Z-coordinate-less! Only Xs and Ys! And I was still able to simulate the
friggin' 3rd-dimension! BOOYAH!
I think my favorite thing I added was the [Y] button's dark/bright horizon option, an effect
pulled off by just changing line thickness.
Also, I didn't even use a macro rotate() for the spins you get when you press [C] or scroll—I did
the calculations for every coordinate with trig, which allow for the wildcards [Q] to go all over
the place. The line equations are messy to look at but were rewarding to figure out.
Thanks if you played it :)

*I wrote the music three years ago.
While I've been improving a lot when it comes to other disciplines, I hate to admit that I've
kinda let composing drop to the wayside... but at least I have a backlog of themes I can pull
from until I write something new. The last thing I wrote was all the way back in April and it was
only one voice :(
btw my last Flash CAN play properly in the browser-version of Ruffle IF you set the render to
2D-Canvas.
Pentavalence_v1 seems fine regardless of the renderer (fingers crossed!)
And I say it's a [G]ame, even though there's no real goal, but it's kind of a game if you press
[R] or [T] and then try to use the buttons and mouse to untangle it back to the river, cave,
trench, or roller coaster.
Happy to hear any thoughts, or to answer any questions.

Yay! I'm so glad you think so!

that's some trippy shit, incredibly well done, especially in such a short time
good work OP, hope you keep playing around with flash

:')
A bit of humor before I go to bed: I went the extra mile to get the minus sign character (-)—and
NOT the hyphen (-)—for the "-/+ spacing", "-/+ sides", "-/+ rings", only for the default font on
4Chan's browser version of Ruffle to ignore it completely :')
^Can't even complain when it's something that funny that defeats me

Yeah I know that feel :3
A knowledgable person could probably pull this off in half an hour, but you have to look up this
and that every step along the way, working out whatever doesn't compute from the start and
slowely but surely crawl towards the finish line.
But then you actually get there and it feels amazing.
Also, this is actually very nuice, because it showcases the 3D possibilites of flash with a
simple tool. Saved.

I'd love to see what you mean if you're willing/able to share it.
>A knowledgable person could probably pull this off in half an hour,
The whole time I was thinking just that :P
But the next time I want to make something similar, I can just look backward to this.

Yeah, no assets required-- just lineGraphics and coordinates!
>Saved.
Well, shucks :)
