[_] 10 years since Pant_Zipper !lk38OS7kEE 3524211 I hope everyone is doing alright. I didn’t have time to make a new Flash for this day, so enjoy this one I made from January, reposted for your stimming pleasure. >"Pro Forma Incantation" (the version playing in the Flash is a low quality .mp3) https://files.catbox.moe/hwwrld.wav >"Main.hx" (my Haxe/openFL code) https://files.catbox.moe/lteb08.txt Over the past three months, I’ve unfortunately let Flash/OpenFL/Haxe fall by the wayside in favor of writing, doing some javaScript projects, and making a little artI really had a good run as renaissance-NEET, didn’t I? Getting okay-to-good at a lot of things that interested me, but my creative velocity is probably going to slow down quite a bit now—for this is my first week of an actual job in almost six years. (But I’m actually loving every minute of it? Sometimes I truly cannot believe how fortunate I am.) If you’re thirsty for more #pant_Zipper content, I wrote a poem-story this week for /lit/’s Writing Competition. My piece >>>/lit/24315651 technically won this month, but the votes recorded on Strawpoll were ridiculously fucky so it’s really a hollow victory But a handful of votes either way doesn’t compare to the personal happiness I hold for having made something I’m proud of. Anyway, maybe one person here might enjoy it :) If any of you are feeling down, at least know that you are not alone—that was my biggest mistep—and that, even more, there are folks out there whose own worlds may be falling apart, but who would still always put a stranger like you before themselves. >> [_] Anon 3524226 I have no idea what you're talking about m8 but that flash is cool as fuck
>> [_] nomad 3524247 >># HEY PANTS! i realy enjoyed our convo on that writing flash you did even if it was mostly me failing to answer any of your questions, erewon sounds really interesting so ill pick it up once im done with middle march and a the thrawn star wars book a friend lent me
>> [_] Anon 3524249 This is why I love this board so much. It's like the only place on this site, on the entire internet even that feels positive. Every other place is filled with only doomposting and depression. But on /f/, we have comfy happy posts
>> [_] Anon 3524252 >but the votes recorded on Strawpoll were ridiculously fucky so it’s really a hollow victory who cares man, take the little victories where you can. thanks for posting this flash again. what job do you have now?

[_] OC Pant_Zipper !lk38OS7kEE 3518530 So, I'm, like, incredibly proud of myself for pulling this—my second real—Flash off in just nine days (if it does indeed play correctly here lol). I never looked up any "how to sim 3D" tutorials or anything like that either—This is all me, and it feels so SWEET to have an idea, to slowly implement it into existence, and then to continually add bells and whistles onto its chassie until the chassie's barely visible and keyboard's almost out of assignable buttons (40?! Plus mouse/click/scroll?!) Even if all this really amounts to is just a neat little widget-/ambience-type-thing, it's, like, kinda sorta my first "[G]ame" or something, so, yeah :) I used to spend a lot of time meditatively drawing 2D-ish shapes like these in Processing/java—screensaver-type stuff—and two weeks ago I hopped back in and drew some concentric pentagons, then I made them follow the mouse, then I tried to make the larger pentagons lag behind the smaller ones... and that's basically how this all started. That prototype I made in Processing was SUPER bare-bones compared to what I was able to achieve here using Actionscript. Extremely glad I'm getting more comfortable with the language (the code for my last Flash was legit storm-tossed compared to this one, trust me). Below, I'm going to eventually share the code (plus the music) I wrote, but just a few more words here on the ActionScript for those interested: What you're looking at is Z-coordinate-less! Only Xs and Ys! And I was still able to simulate the friggin' 3rd-dimension! BOOYAH! I think my favorite thing I added was the [Y] button's dark/bright horizon option, an effect pulled off by just changing line thickness. Also, I didn't even use a macro rotate() for the spins you get when you press [C] or scroll—I did the calculations for every coordinate with trig, which allow for the wildcards [Q] to go all over the place. The line equations are messy to look at but were rewarding to figure out. Thanks if you played it :) Marked for deletion (old).
>> [_] Anon 3518532 very cool! thanks for posting this.
>> [_] Pant_Zipper !lk38OS7kEE 3518533 >"Pro Forma Incantation" (the version playing in the Flash is a low quality .mp3)* https://files.catbox.moe/hwwrld.wav >"Main.hx" (my Haxe/openFL code) https://files.catbox.moe/lteb08.txt *I wrote the music three years ago. While I've been improving a lot when it comes to other disciplines, I hate to admit that I've kinda let composing drop to the wayside... but at least I have a backlog of themes I can pull from until I write something new. The last thing I wrote was all the way back in April and it was only one voice :( btw my last Flash CAN play properly in the browser-version of Ruffle IF you set the render to 2D-Canvas. Pentavalence_v1 seems fine regardless of the renderer (fingers crossed!) And I say it's a [G]ame, even though there's no real goal, but it's kind of a game if you press [R] or [T] and then try to use the buttons and mouse to untangle it back to the river, cave, trench, or roller coaster. Happy to hear any thoughts, or to answer any questions. >># >very cool! thanks for posting this. Yay! I'm so glad you think so!
>> [_] Rare Flash Collector !bgvu1ECAmM 3518536 good soup
>> [_] Anon 3518538 that's some trippy shit, incredibly well done, especially in such a short time good work OP, hope you keep playing around with flash
>> [_] Pant_Zipper !lk38OS7kEE 3518551 >># >good soup >># >that's some trippy shit, incredibly well done, especially in such a short time >good work OP, hope you keep playing around with flash :') A bit of humor before I go to bed: I went the extra mile to get the minus sign character (-)—and NOT the hyphen (-)—for the "-/+ spacing", "-/+ sides", "-/+ rings", only for the default font on 4Chan's browser version of Ruffle to ignore it completely :') ^Can't even complain when it's something that funny that defeats me
>> [_] Anon 3518552 >># pretty fucking cool, anon
>> [_] Anon 3518559 >># >it feels so SWEET to have an idea, to slowly implement it into existence, and then to continually add bells and whistles onto its chassie Yeah I know that feel :3 A knowledgable person could probably pull this off in half an hour, but you have to look up this and that every step along the way, working out whatever doesn't compute from the start and slowely but surely crawl towards the finish line. But then you actually get there and it feels amazing. Also, this is actually very nuice, because it showcases the 3D possibilites of flash with a simple tool. Saved.
>> [_] Pant_Zipper !lk38OS7kEE 3518612 >># >># >Yeah I know that feel :3 I'd love to see what you mean if you're willing/able to share it. >A knowledgable person could probably pull this off in half an hour, The whole time I was thinking just that :P But the next time I want to make something similar, I can just look backward to this. >Also, this is actually very nuice, because it showcases the 3D possibilites of flash with a simple tool. Yeah, no assets required-- just lineGraphics and coordinates! >Saved. Well, shucks :)
