[_] [?] evolving cart program Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)23:56 No.869177

Cart dies when red circles touch ground. They live for 10 seconds max, and start a new generation
after 20 individuals. Black graph signifies maximum distance by generation, green signifies
  average distance.

Marked for deletion (old).

BTW, I'm running 5 at a time for MAXIMUM POWER

>> [_] Anonymous 12/30/08(Tue)01:26 No.869221

  What does the graph mean?

  >Black graph signifies maximum distance by generation, green signifies average distance.

  Fucktard.

I used to play a game like this on old G3/G4 macs in middle school. You could make a motorcycle
and change tire sizes and everything. what was that called?

>> [_] Anonymous 12/30/08(Tue)01:33 No.869225

This isn't one of those programs that tests billions of __________ for a working one is it? i
remember a one like that for prime numbers...

  >>869225

its an ai program to try to find the best cart.

the best cart being the one which can cover the most distance

  don't call random choice ai

cool, i love writing AI programs that evolve over time, never done any with physics though...

  >>869228

there is no ai without random.

on a side note, mine has been going on instant deaths for about 8 generations now. also, the
graph is fucked, even though they are all instantly dying, the black and green lines keep going
up, they probably mean distance over time alive or something like that rather than max distance
  and average distance

>> [_] Anonymous 12/30/08(Tue)03:02 No.869264

It would be nice if it didn't undermine its advantageous adaptations at every generation.

It would be better if it ran about ten simuations simultaneously, with a single change on each
one, and then chooses the best. Probably work much faster.

In fact, I want to take a crack at it. This physics system is a library we can download
  somewhere, right?

mine keeps dying in the same spot every time, even though it's not tipping over and it's still

probably that's just the farthest distance the author set it to go, just so that it wouldn't take
  years to evolve.

at least not with current technology.

We have to use quick morphing trial and error to make something resembling AI now, but AI is
  theoretically possible without randomness.

this blows.... my app has generated the perfect cart - large wheels, proper suspension, centered
weight distribution. It hauls ass over all of the terrain and then FUCKING DIES AFTER 10 SECONDS!!

I WANT TO SEE IT RAPE THE SHIT OUT OF MORE TERRAIN!!

>> [_] Anonymous 12/30/08(Tue)06:02 No.869325

Needs to get rid of the 10 second death and randomised terrain that gets harder to cover the
  longer it goes on.

>> [_] Anonymous 12/30/08(Tue)06:13 No.869330

it's not a game, it's just something that the guy who made it had fun making, it's not meant for

Something curious I noticed after running about three copies of this for a few hours- and is kind
of related to the quoted post,
The cart that was the most successful initially (went the furthest in the earliest generations)
has pretty much stopped evolving. It's progress has flatlined. Two other copies I opened later
were outright failures initially, and took countless generations to get it right; However at the
moment they're the most successful and are going further than the cart that got it right from the
  get-go.

>> [_] Anonymous 12/30/08(Tue)07:24 No.869359

My cart needs more lifespace and is going to get rid of the inferior east races

Needs to run 5 trials at once for for 1 minute maximum each. Also needs graph to display actual
distance so we can compare different specimens

>> [_] Anonymous 12/30/08(Tue)09:57 No.869385

I have a very small compacted one that is unstable compared to the others interesting

i think i beat this game

Just a little proof of concept.
  Programs can evolve.

>> [_] Anonymous 12/30/08(Tue)15:05 No.869498

Is there a version that lives longer than 10 seconds? It blows that the thing restarts after 10
  seconds.
