The reason corporations were formed wasn't because the aristocracy wanted to ensure they held control over the resources. It's because mass production and centralized/specialized industry is 1000X more efficient than each man producing his own stuff and trading. It's precisely what allowed for the surplus he's talking about in all the goods we have.
