Hardcore versions are neat, and fun to fuck around with, but any character that lives beyond level 10 is nothing but ridiculously lucky, because the game is -made- to inch up in zones until one kills you and then go back one and grind there for a while, before inching up again to test your limits. >> [_] Anon 1380784 >># >># But having to worry about a character dying is a nice touch and adds a lot of balance, punishing players who go all out on offense. Maybe there's a compromise, like OP could make reviving take an hour or so? >> [_] Anon 1380785 >># >adds a lot of balance Just no. Hardcore mode does not add any balance, it just fucks the balance issues over to the other side of the scale, making any character with offense fucked in the ass and rewarding only characters based purely on defense. >> [_] Anon 1380787 >># Got to agree with this. Having regenerating dwarf rogues/paladins being the only class that can survive is just as retarded as having wizards be the only class with an exponential growth curve. That is dumb and you are dumb; if you really want to make death a bigger deal than it is now I think the first step would be REMOVING TELEPORT; any mage class by level 15 is going to have teleport so high that even without Learning at all it is at a ridiculous advantage over the other classes. The next step would be making mages travel slower than other classes naturally, but not by some retarded amount causing a death to take a fucking hour to recover from because that is retarded, I'm thinking maybe half the speed of a ranged class which is two thirds the speed of a mounted class (mounts should help travel time c'mon it makes sense) >> [_] Anon 1380793 >># For the record, nobody has done any public testing of the stat growth of wizards vs necromancers, but all classes do have separate stat growths; your wis may still be lacking. >> [_] Anon 1380794 >># ...but teleport doesn't help you revive faster, only travel faster. And mages die more than other classes. >> [_] Anon 1380795 >># But dying makes you have to travel back to town and then back out to the zone you were in, plus natural speed differences would make normal questing take different amounts of time, with penalties on mages /all the time/, which is something they can fucking live with since their spells make them so godly as it is and would further help in balancing the classes. >> [_] OP !8nHncBHSeM 1380796 >># Mounts already reduce travel time since version 1.5 or something. At least they're supposed to. I am monitoring this thread. I don't yet know what would be the best rebalance myself, but I don't like nerfing particular race/class/spell combinations, because that means punishing success - would prefer to change the game mechanics instead. >> [_] Anon 1380799 >># That would just make playing a mage annoying as fuck. Race it against your wizard. So far it's catching up with everything I have, that is a rogue, a paladin and a hobbit wizard with learning focus. Knights really tend to one-shot stuff in this version and they don't waste time debuffing the enemy either. >> [_] Anon 1380821 Johnny Wizard the level 6 Hobbit Wizard: Str: 2 | Con: 2 | Dex: 8 | Cha: 4 | Int: 17 | Wis: 11 Johnny Necro the level 6 Hobbit Necromancer: Str: 2 | Con: 2 | Dex: 8 | Cha: 3 | Int: 14 | Wis: 14 Levels are getting further apart in time and exp now, and I don't feel like watching and waiting for them to level up anymore; I have better things to do with my time. Enjoy the data, guys. >> [_] Anon 1380823 >># Yeah, every class has different stat growth, that is known and obvious, it's just that it isn't documented -what- each class's stat growths are. Different races are the same deal; a Hobbit gains different stats from a High Elf gains different stats from a Half-Orc etc. etc. It's just that nobody has done any /public/ testing of the differences, probably because levels start taking too long to be interesting data after level 5 and it takes so many characters running in parallel that it's just too big a task to take on for one person alone. >> [_] Anon 1380824 for the record, I ran two hobbit necromancers in parallel from level 1 to level 19, and I can confirm that stats are NOT random at ALL because every single level their base stats stayed the same and the only differences were due to the passive spell buffs. >> [_] Anon 1380825 >># So... wizards get more int, necros get more wis? >> [_] Anon 1380826 >># What level are you talking about here? Unless you're talking beyond level 13 or 14 then it doesn't really matter, because that is where enemies start getting big enough HP pools that shit is not even close to getting one-shot and you need to be able to tank to live, and I just don't see a knight without ice arrow and regen out the ass to do much but die at this stage. I could be wrong, of course, especially with the new mount mechanics and the huge dex buff each non-mage class got, since most of my knowledge is from v1.0 not v1.9, it's just that even with those bonuses I don't see it working out very well for them in my head. >> [_] Anon 1380827 >># If what >># is saying is true, then you could basically map all classes by running human <class> in parallel and all races by running say <race> knight in parallel. It's just that it's a lot of data to process. >> [_] Anon 1380828 Bubba the Sleepy Human Cowboy riding a Pathetic Pathetic Donkey and wearing Smelly Lace. Win. >> [_] Anon 1380829 >># That's what it seems like, yeah. And I've gotta say, having seen level 19 necromancers, one being forseeing focused, running out of mana against enemies, I would much rather the necromancer than the wizard. Being able to nuke shit doesn't mean much if you don't have the mana to back it up. >> [_] Anon 1380830 >># if you want images to back my claims up I've got a few, here's one: http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/8994/ necromancerslevel17.png that's from v1.0 but as far as I'm aware that shouldn't matter >> [_] Anon 1380831 >># It could matter since OP's changed the game mechanics a lot. See for example monster modifiers actually affecting how tough the monster is instead of just being for show. >> [_] Anon 1380833 >># Well then. Wis confirmed to affect manapool. And Wis confirmed to be a better focus than Poison. >> [_] Anon 1380834 >># He's included patch notes for each version, though, and I've got all of them and none have mentioned randomizing stat growth, or anything other than how he increased non-mage dex so they could stay competitive. Honestly, if you guys wanna know this shit so bad just decompile the flash and look at the source code, it's only 21 KB it's not gonna be too hard to figure out. >> [_] Anon 1380835 >># This is shit we've known since like the second thread. >> [_] Anon 1380837 >># Too spoilerey. Actually OP himself posted source last thread when some guy asked but it's in some kind of crazy assembler code I can't read for shit with push and goto instructions. >> [_] Anon 1380838 >># funny story, I started the forseeing focus like an hour after the poison focus, and it took him about five hours to pass poison in exp, then a day later I check on them and poison has passed forseeing back by like 40% exp, then two more days later and forseeing is just fucking stomping the shit out of poison. I stopped running the game just a little bit after this, but I don't see poison passing forseeing again because mana pool is just so crucial to fast kills once you get up to level 19. >> [_] Anon 1380840 >># Who in their right mind would write a flash program in assembler? >> [_] Anon 1380841 >># so it's 'too spoilery' to look at the soruce code and figure out the rate of stat growth for each class, but it's okay to figure it out by running a million different characters and gathering raw data and just brute forcing it? i could at least understand 'too easy' but that is not the arguement you're making >> [_] Anon 1380843 >># I guess it's more like it would break the spell of the game.
