Contemporary flash games when this became popular were of a higher quality than this, and there's no point in it. Contrast that with Steamshovel Harry, which is indeed well-crafted, in most or many ways more professional than many flash games it parodies, and absolutely worth reposting. It gets people genuinely surprised, laughing or angry, and not just exactly what you would expect: 'what the fuck is this shit?' Even the worst of 2deep4u seek to give as much agency as possible to the player so they can be awed by their introspective message. There is a reason this isn't and wasn't often reposted and yet Steamshovel Harry was. It simply is not good as an example of what it is satirizing, and it is not good as satire. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this, it's nice to see fresh art in the gaming world. It is an interesting way of getting and introspective to the two personalities which plague a single character. The notion of being doomed to running or jumping endlessly whether you are happy or depressed is really quite profound and in many ways reflects modern society. Despite being happy the white figure is very flawed and has almost built up a facade while the black character polarizes this. /it is also interesting to see the white character living in a world of darkness yet smiling and having quotes like "I stared into the abyss". Referencing Nietzsche and Emily Dickinson in this manner really adds to our understanding of the existential issues faced by both figures. >># I think the pixelated notion in games is a bit overdone and the game already loops which provides the progress metaphor you want. |
