Besides, literally every single frame of the shorts contains dozens of parodies and references to not only popular anime of its day, but also to tons of western media franchises. The "Bunny suit" is far from the most "blatant" reference. But parody is allowed anyway. You are allowed to incorporate other people's trademarks in incidental roles for the sake of parody, that's fair use. Like for instance, if it only included a short sample of the ELO song instead of the whole thing, they wouldn't need anyone's permission to show it and even sell it (and there are even some precedents confirming exactly what counts as a "short" sample).

[_] DAICON IV Opening Animation Anon 2027876 I tried to clean it up a bit so that it would look ok (and not be completely washed out), and I shoved it in a tiny box, as you can see, because it looks better that way than blown up fullscreen. Still working on it though. Marked for deletion (old).
